So I'm just wondering how much of this is focused on green day and is there alot of stuff we haven't seen or heard in regards to the band?

As someone who had little to no knowledge of the East Bay Punk scene and Green Day's very early years, I found it really informative. But I can see how someone on both ends of the spectrum might not enjoy it though. If someone isn't that interested in the scene or Green Day, they might think it drags on, going into every little detail about every obscure band with a lack of focus. Or if someone is so interested that they've already researched every little bit of information, they might find it not informative enough.

If you're going into it expecting a full-on Green Day documentary, you'll probably be disappointed. But if you want to learn more about the places, people and music that influenced the band and made it what it is today, understanding that it's not going to be focused solely on Green Day itself, you'll like it. There's still enough new stuff in there to enjoy.

I thought it was really interesting that they were once considered too poppy to play Gilman, for example... that was a fun little story that really showed how persistence pays off.

Nice. I. Gonna have to wait for the DVD because there's no theaters in ct showing it. I'm really only interested in the green day footage anyways.

That awkward moment when you come into this thread just to see your sweaty ugly ass self pop up.

hahaha I loved the film, I was telling Corbett it gave me nostalgia. My favorite part was probably "who you got?? Who you got??! Fuck you, we've got neurosis!" And I almost expected Billie to end that with a "we've got neurosis, bitch!" But it's probably just me always cursing like a sailor.

I found out last night that this is showing in Toronto on the 6th Oct - anyone going to that?! I happen to be in Toronto then and I’m tempted but I doubt my non-fandom friends will want to come (especially since the fandom we’re actually in Toronto for has a thing on that night too, lol)

I mean, if they're into punk rock they might like it.

They're not particularly  and I think they'd much rather go to the other fandom thing (which is Supernatural Karaoke.)

Best Music Docs of 2017

Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk

Long before Green Day and Rancid became household names and 924 Gilman St. morphed into a West Coast CBGB's, the Bay Area's not-quiet-on-the-Eastern-front cities were churning out punk rock groups by the dozens. Corbett Redford's surprisingly thorough doc traces the scene's evolution from its early days crawling out of San Francisco's shadow to being dubbed the Next Seattle. Worth its weight in tattered Xeroxed 'zines.

Ugh when is this going to be available on demand or DVD already? It is never going to play in my city, and I tried my best to being it here. 😢

I keep telling people about it and have no way to show them so I agree. Bring on the DVD!
