Thank you for sharing! Great review. You had the right words to describe the movie. I watched it yesterday night and I really enjoyed it. The mix of narration, interviews, old pictures and home videos is so well balanced. It's a must see movie for everybody who would love to understand the punk culture scene from the East Bay.

By the way, funny fact from my night yesterday: the stamp at the entrance at the bar. The guy who was scanning the tickets had to stamp everybody entering the venue. My coworker and I both showed him the back of our hands to get the stamp, but he told us that he will only put the stamp on the inside of the wrist. So, he did. I didn't pay attention at what was the stamp at that moment because it was so cold inside the bar (air conditionner to the max). I immediately put on my vest. Anyway, during the movie, there is this scene at the Gilman's entrance where all the people were getting their stamps on their wrists. So I was like «Oh! That's why the guy didn't want to stamp the back of our hands. He wanted to do it just like at Gilman!» Later, when I got back home, I took off my vest and looked at the stamp. It was written «Boo!» inside a frame. I immediately thought about Billie Joe's family band The Boo. I don't know who chose the stamp and if the decision was a coincidence or not, but it was kind of cool to get the stamp like at Gilman and looking like maybe an unwanted little shoutout to Billie Joe and family.

I'm going tonight! Who else will be there? I'm excited that Larry Livermore (and others) are doing a Q&A...does anyone know when that starts? Wonder if Billie will stop by. I doubt it but he may still have the NYC apartment, so you never know.

Yeah, I'm at the 9:20 tonight too. Does anyone have a friend that bailed? Mine is looking for a ticket.

Looks like that ticket will be available. It was $16.50. When/where can you pick it up?

I'm attending tonight!

I assume the Q&A will be after the film. I'd love to see/meet up with you if you're attending.

When does everyone plan on arriving? Not saying one needs to necessarily wait outside the IFC center for 4 hours, but.. an hour? 30min? More?

I just asked in the FB group, so I hope I get a response but:

The film has a run time of 2.5 hours. If it starts between 9:20-9:30, it will be ending around midnight, and with the Q&A after, who knows? It seems a bit odd.

My thoughts exactly! And I need to catch the Metro North train to get home. So this late time seems crazy.

I also asked IFC on FB. If they don't answer, I'll probably stop by the theater a little early to check.

New video that premiered on Yahoo musci

Video Premiere: Get a Glimpse of Green Day's Earliest Days in New Doc

Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk is a new documentary executive produced by Green Day, chronicling the rise of the punk music scene in California’s Bay Area. Narrated by Iggy Pop, the film features interviews with legendary punk and rock bands like Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, Metallica, Rancid, AFI, the members of Green Day, and more.

Yahoo Music is excited to premiere a sneak preview of the film, which is released in theaters July 28 (check here to find a showing in your area). The clip explores the early days of Green Day, talking to the band’s label, roadies, tour manager, and drummer Tre Cool himself.

First time filmmaker Corbett Redford (who grew up in the area and went to high school school with Green Day) says of the documentary: “I believe our film’s ultimate focus is about the human need we all have to find a place to belong — a place we feel safe to truly be ourselves. I feel much urgency for people to see what we have created in this documentary – which at its core is really a story about the road to the emergence of the non- profit music collective 924 Gilman in Berkeley, California.

“Safe community spaces like Gilman continuing to exist are going to be more important than ever in the days ahead. Outsiders of all stripes need a place to come together under the dark clouds of an often-oppressive world. This was the case then. This is still the case now. I hope the story of East Bay Punk can be another example of how things can be… in a world that continues to tell us most of the time only how things cannot be.”

I swung by the theater and the guy at the door said that Q & A's are always after movies and that the movie is ending at midnight!

I have to be at Grand Central  by around 12:55 :-/

I'm going to meet my friend and then return. Some people are playing early GD tunes outside the theater

I planned on arriving at 8:30, but I think I'm arriving closer to 9:00.

Hopefully the Q&A won't last too long !

Edit: I'll be with my hair down, in a red blouse(?) With sequin like things on it.

So I just saw Larry Livermore outside but he was conversing with a few people so I didn't say anything (if by some reason you see this... hey? :))

Also: I'm seated in the back row, on the right side as one enters the space, if anyone wants to say hey.
