Billie Joe playing with The Replacements

Who are these people? They don't deserve to live.

Oh you know, people who think the band's fashion choices are an important thing to criticize when talking about their music. The best ones are the ones that say they hate them wearing eyeliner and wish they still dressed like old school Green Day and then follow that up by commenting that they hate fangirls who only care about their looks haha.

Since you can see from my username and my registration on this forum that I'm a massive Replacements and Green Day fan, I'm gonna fangirl for a moment and talk about how I was at the barricade in the center for this!

(The people in front of me here are the photographers between the barricade and the stage.)

It was so amazing. I was singing along so hard to every word, and when they were giving away the setlist one of the roadies gave it to me because of how much I was singing.

And in this video, during the "headed out to San Francisco, definitely not LA" line, when Billie kinda shakes his finger and laughs...no big deal, just us both mutually hating LA, making direct eye contact and singing the line together and then laughing together about it:

I'm not even exaggerating when I say this was my dream concert. I've always wanted Billie to do something with the 'Mats, and I've always wanted to see the 'Mats live, so I'm fucking ecstatic.

Also, a lot of people are commenting a lot on Billie's appearance, but actually he looked a lot better than the photographs seem to show (when he came out, though, a lot of people were like "who is that?" haha).

Also also, Paul Westerberg is the cutest man to see perform. He makes the best faces and has the most adorable little things he does on the stage. The couch was brilliant haha.

I was standing next to Tommy's Tonsils on the barricade (we went to Coachella together) and I can confirm that this was the best show ever and I'm basically going to be glowing for most of the conceivable future due to seeing what is literally a dream set. Seriously, Green Day has always been my absolute favorite band, while the 'Mats are my third favorite. This show was like some kind of hypothetical fanfic I could have written, except it happened for REAL. It's the culmination of at least a decade spent with music geekery, and I couldn't have been more fortunate to have witnessed it. Billie seemed hella nervous sometimes, but he looked great if a little untamed, and he rocked and was the cutest, as always.

(It was Tommy's Tonsils idea to go to Coachella in the first place, so she gets all of the kudos forever.)

The Replacements Live Archives website has a ton of great bootlegs from 'Mats shows. They have one from last weekend's 'Mats Coachella show so I'm sure they'll eventually get one for this past weekend. It'll only be audio, but it'll at least be something :)

That's great, thank you very much

This is only indirectly related to the topic, but still a very nice story, I think. :)

Green Day LIVE on Tour (must share)
On RS fb page under this link in the comments [the link to the RS article about BJ joining the Replacements at the Coachella festival] is a fun & interesting story by Laura Evans:
"He's a great guy. At BB's Blues in downtown St. Louis, years ago, my friend and I were sitting at a table at a sold out show. It's a tiny place wi
th 'not quite huge' but great blues acts, and people share tables, so this group of 3 guys walked up and asked if they could sit at our table. We were really tickled to see how much they got into the music. We asked them during a break what made them come see the show, and the one dude said "We just did a show up the street at the Scotttrade Center, and we heard this guy (Kenny Neal) was here, and we wanted to watch him, and learn from him, because he's a legend. We said "Oh, you have a band too? What's the name?"

Green Day. We'd sat the entire late night set with them and they didn't even say who they were until we asked. I've been in the music business the first part of my life and I gotta tell you, musicians like that are rare. So I"m not surprised he stepped in. Great guy."

Westerberg hurt himself inbetween the 2 Coachella weekends. So this last Friday night Billy Joe came to the rescue and helped out on some guitar/vocals while Grandpa Boy strummed along, lying on a couch most the set. Fun gig nonetheless.

Green Day and The Replacements are my dream concert too. When I saw a picture of Billie Joe playing with the Mat's, upon waking up[ the day after, I literally said "holy Shit."

You two are very lucky to have been there!

Except that both before and after rehab he's always "let himself go" when not doing stuff with the band and smartened up again when they come back. He always looks scruffy between albums/tours so to act like it's a new thing or has anything to do with rehab is asinine, especially when he's looked smart for most of the last year or so since rehab!

I know, I was only joking :P It's not like growing a beard constitutes letting oneself go anyway, it just makes him look ancient!

Oh I know, I was aiming that at the people on facebook who were saying it seriously.

Years of inviting his own fans up on stage to live their dreams....he deserved this :) Who cares what he looks like, he is a happy man!

I would of loved to see this tho, jealous of you who went!

Last weekend's collaboration grew out of Armstrong's friendship with Westerberg (who did a joint interview with him in Spin in 2010) and Stinson. Armstrong was already planning to come to the show. What started with the invitation to play one song grew into almost the entire set.

"Paul flew in Friday morning, hobbling around on a cane," Perlstein recalls. "We were like, 'Oh shit.' He threw his back out."

A plan was quickly hatched at their hotel. Armstrong arrived an hour before they played that evening, went to the trailer, and they pieced the set together. Remember the matching plaid suits the guys -- aside from Westerberg -- were wearing? A surprise gift from a designer friend of a friend. "It just kinda fell in our lap," Perlstein says. "The whole thing was very organic. There was no thought put into it. It just happened."

"They're having fun, and Paul's in good spirits," Perlstein says. But will there be more Armstrong-aided shows to come? "You never know what could happen in the future."
