Green Day to release LP titled "Demolicious" to support Record Store Day

Hey, I think we should be grateful for what Green Day has given us. For most of us, Green Day has changed our lives unbelievably. Let's appreciate what they have given us, and not focus on what they haven't.

I'll always be infinitely grateful to them for giving us seven fantastic studio albums and changing my life and getting me into rock music with AI. That does nothing to change the fact that I don't like the Trilogy, and as this thread is heavily Trilogy-related avoiding it would be pretty well impossible. :P

Accepting their flaws and not blindly worshipping everything they ever do surely only puts the extent to which we love their good stuff into perspective.

I love this, some of the songs sound even better than the final versions.

I'm not saying you should blindly worship them, but stuff like "they should've done this" and "they should've done that" is dumb. Green Day wouldn't have put out the records if they weren't satisfied with them. It's okay not to like the stuff, but obviously Green Day likes things a different way than you do, and they're not gonna do things the way they used to anymore

Except

1. Their own opinion of their work isn't infallible.

2. No one is saying they should do things exactly the way they used to, unless by that you mean not sucking and having Mike and Tre be creative again. No one is asking them to just make another Dookie.

I don't think it's dumb to say what we want them to do. They may see things differently, and do things as they see fit, and that's perfectly fine and valid given that, y'know, they're the band. But they're only human, and not necessarily right about things 100% of the time. Plus it's just fun to discuss what we'd ideally have them do, because why not?

I didn't mean immediately :P

Demolicious kinda sounds like if Green Day hadn't decided to go with Cavallo for the trilogy, and just released the albums on Adeline, self produced it, and made it a little rougher around the edges.

Well if I keep posting at the rate that I do, I'll unlock that feature in the year 2022...

Why oh why did they change it from "Little Boy Named Train" to "A Little Boy Named Train"? It's a nightmare for my music collection OCD!!!

I think Billie's kinda realised that Green day exist more in Arena rock than punk now and that doing the lo-fi idea might not go well. I'd still like to see that though.

Is anyone on here going to the event thing at 1-2-3-4 Go Records this Saturday morning? I'm thinking of going, but driving to Oakland is about an hour and a half away and I'd have to get up extremely early in order to get a spot in line. It might be worth it though...

Exactly! I actually wonder if it was Tre's liner notes that were wrong/old, though. Last.fm always autocorrects it to A Little and I believe it's A Little on Spotify, and while that doesn't necessarily mean the A is accurate, it's obviously something questioned

Having listened to the whole thing on YouTube...it's better in a lot of places, I'll give it that. The heavier guitars give a lot of the songs a much-needed weight, a few lyric changes here and there were better than we got on the final albums, Mike's backing vocals being present is a huge improvement, and the key change in "99 Revolutions" was goddamn golden. But...it's nowhere near enough. Keeping this Exile on Main St. vibe for the proper albums would have been a tremendous boon, and would definitely have improved my reception of them. But the melodies and chord progressions are still recycled. The lyrics are still far below Billie's usual standard.

If anything, this just makes me even more disappointed in the product we ended up getting. What I want more than anything is for Billie to sit down and pay precise fucking attention to what he's writing, and try to channel some of the swirling emotions that must have come from iHeart/rehab into genuinely emotional lyrics. Write choruses of more than one line, do more with the melodies than he's been doing. And then the band needs to have the balls to finally do the Exile on Main St. lo-fi record they've been dragging their feet about for over ten years now. Hire Vig instead of Cavallo, dial back the vocal filters, amp up the guitar distortion, and let loose. Let Mike write basslines like he used to write, let Tre go full "Burnout" again. And don't let the stripped down live-in-the-studio vibe get in the way of creativity in production. Exile on Main St. still has plenty of extra instruments involved. Get Jason Freese in there on the sax, have Jason White do the best rip-roar he's got in him. Bring back the acoustic elements from 21CB and Warning. Bring in a broken-down old piano. Let it be huge and sprawling, because that's how a record like this should be, but make that sprawl have a purpose behind it like 21CB, not the lackluster "story" of the Trilogy.

If they can get their shit together and actually pull off what the Trilogy should have been, it could be the best thing ever. If not, and the next album is also a faceplant, I think I'm done actively following new Green Day albums.

I'm sorry to say that this is the overwhelming vibe I'm getting from the triology. The lyrics were what struck me the most. It almost seemed as if no effort was put in? I don't know much about music or production, I just know that it was Green Day's energy and lyrical expression that got me in to them at first, and the trilogy was lacking that. I can still enjoy the songs to an extent, and Demolicious is a huge improvement, but I'd like to see something more like Insomniac or AI or even Warning for their next album. Of course I'm not resistant to change for the band, I just think they need to regain some of the passion in their songs that's recently been absent for me.

Hey Aussies!

Any of you guys got the low down on which stores in Victoria will carry Demolicious? Just wondering if anyone has already done their research before I start doing mine :D

I was just assuming that JB-Hi-Fi would be stocking it? I haven't done any research whatsoever though. Sanity is usually pretty shit I find, so I think JB might be our best bet.

The best thing about these demo's are the fact that Billie finally sings 'shut your mouth cause you're talking too much and I don't give a FUCK anyway' instead of 'DAMN'. I always sing it the way he sings it in the demos

Of course it would be silly to complain about imperfections on a demo album, that's why I said "too bare". :) What I mean is that I think it sounded basic, boring, and out-of-place next to the rest of the songs. It would better suit another scenario (like my example). I do like the glimpses behind the scenes, but it is more like something you'd expect to see in a warm-up before a show on a DVD, or for them to release through Instagram or Twitter or Soundcloud.

Okay, so this is - again - a matter of opinion, like or dislike. That´s fine. :drinks:
