Green Day to release LP titled "Demolicious" to support Record Store Day

Well most places dont go off on the MSRP they will set their prices up based off the wholesale price

But if you look at retailer's one sheets you'll see most albums have a MSRP of 18 or so

Most of us don't have access to those one sheets, and have no idea how to find them. I've seen them posted for some Blu-rays on a forum, though.

This can be considered like a "normal" cd, right? 'Cause I'm not expecting it to be a rarity that I can only buy on the internet which right now could be very difficult; I want to buy it in a store :sorry:

I think it's a Record Store Day exclusive; however, unlike a lot of the Record Store Day exclusives, this one isn't being made in limited quantities (as far as we know - for instance, it was only recently announced that The Boss's previously-announced 12" EP would be limited to 9,000 copies). In any case, copies will make their way to the Internet (probably for jacked up prices). Green Day does seem like the sort of band that would probably release the demos (or at least "State of Shock") for digital download (or do a physical re-release somewhere down the line). It's even possible that so many copies will be printed that they won't all get sold, and will remain in stores for a while.

Yeah, Green Day cares about the fans - they are one of the few bands releasing their "new" material on CD - most of their fans probably don't own a record player (or cassette player), and I'm guessing the band knows it. The releases from The Ramones, Paramore, Johnny Cash, and many other bands don't contain new or unheard material (Paramore's contains a remix for the B-side, but I'm not sure if it's exclusive to the single). In fact Green Day is one of the ONLY bands confirmed to be releasing a CD for Record Store Day (the full list will be published on March 20, so we will know for sure then - that will also tell us if the release is in fact limited in quantity or not).

Only limited we know so far is just the vinyl

What's the limit?

Didn't know there WAS a limit.

Well, they can't produce an eternal surplus, so the production has to end at some x value of LP's Plus Record Store Day releases are typically intended to be sold during that time frame

Dunno but the article about it says the color vinyls are limited but doesnt state the number

You mean this press release? I checked Green Day's announcement as well, and neither mention anything about a limit - just a "special edition."

If is special don't supposed to be limited?

It's all good - you didn't really fuck up at all. As a film buff/DVD collector, I have had to train myself to look for the difference - although "limited edition" usually doesn't mean jack-shit, it sometimes does, so it's worth it to know the difference.

If is special don't supposed to be limited?

Well, let's say I'm buying a movie on DVD. I go to the store, and I see three different options for the film - there's a one-disc, normal version without special features (what us collectors call a "vanilla edition"), a two-disc "special edition" that has a second disc with bonus features such as deleted scenes, interviews, trailers, etc., and a special "limited edition," which could be any number of things - it could be the same as one of the other versions, but with different packaging (such as a Steelbook) exclusive to the store; it could include an extra bonus disc with more content (such as with Django Unchained, which had different discs at different stores), it could include content not on a DVD (such as postcards or a film cell), etc. The "special edition" is not necessarily limited - it's just got more stuff.

Hum I thought that if was "special" it supposed to be limited or it wouldn't be special at all.

Can't wait to see what the insert looks like!

I'm wondering if there will be much of one at all. What would they include in it? The only thing I could see is a bunch of random photos of the band in the studio.

I don't know much about marketing (I'm a history major), but I know enough to confirm that "limited edition" is a marketing ploy. If it is limited, then yes, it is special, but if there is something unique about it, then it can be called a "special edition," even if it isn't produced in limited numbers. Since Demolicious is getting produced on red and clear vinyl (instead of ordinary black), that would make it a "special edition," since it isn't ordinary. If only, say, 2,000 or 3,000 or 15,000 copies are made, then it is a "limited edition" (technically, there is a limit to just about EVERYTHING, with a few exceptions - notably human stupidity, as can be seen by politicians and reality television stars).

Sorry If this was already asked but is this available for preorder yet?

The purpose of "Record Store Day" is to go to your local record store and support them by buying it there. So I believe (forgive me if I'm wrong) that it won't be available online until after RSD, and only on the stores' websites. (and it'll show up on amazon and stuff after that)

That's just an educated guess, so I may not be right

What's the big fucking deal? $20 for a CD? Who cares? the American Idiot Broadway cd is like $18 at Best Buy. Does an extra $5 or $10 really make a big difference for your favorite band? You're not gonna have to hungry over it. Maybe cut back on the snack food, or drink water for a day instead of buying 1 or 2 sodas. It's not that hard to save up an extra $10.

Depends when it comes out. My family is damn near broke right before pay day. That would be back luck on my part.

Ok, for those who genuinely cannot afford it, even by using the methods stated, why don't you buy it for them? I'd be happy to facilitate it. Send me your paypal address and I'll request the money from you. Hell, I'll even kick in $20 myself. Should $100 from you be enough to cover a few people? As you state, just drink water instead of two sodas every day until the release and I think you'll have the $100 saved up.

My local store replied saying they can't be sure until the day but they haven't been offered it yet. I don't really want to travel elsewhere in case I do that and can't get it. Damn.

"Don't panic - no not yet." The official list of ALL Record Store Day releases will be published on March 20, so we will probably find out then if the album is a RSD exclusive or if it's just getting released first at RSD. I would suspect that the colored vinyl and possibly the cassette will most likely be exclusives, though. If the release is not in very limited quantities, then if your store orders them (just ask if they have a week or two before), they will probably get some in.
