Green Day to release LP titled "Demolicious" to support Record Store Day

I love how there's a "hey-ohh" at the beginning of Rusty James, an arena rock gimmick at the beginning of a song about their old local punk scene. No idea if it was deliberate or not but I like the juxtaposition.

Glad to hear someone else voice that thought... I wasn't sure if it's all in my head. Or we just kind of have that "rawr" thing in our heads.

Usually I'd assume it's mostly just my dirty thoughts but in this case it's such an obvious double entendre that I have no doubt it's what he had in mind

It's not Rob's fault, it's EVERYONE'S FAULT! :runaround:

No, but seriously  Both Cavallo and the band made some mistakes in the trilogy. After listening to Demolicious it's more than clear that it's not Green Day losing their awesomeness but overproduction doing it again. I think the band should make some changes, because when your fans prefer all the demo versions of all the songs you've made since 2009, there sure is a problem. Not saying that they should stop doing what they want, but I think it would be a really good thing for their career. To be fair, this thing of using voice filters and autotune in every single song even if they don't need it is killing music.

Agree with all this.

Voice filter especially ruined it imo.

And their care for perfection, too. I remember what BJ said in this itw for RS last year, that he always made sure evey song is fully done, and also that he liked ''shitty sounding stuff'' or something like that...

I really like Demolicious for it.

Exactly. They told us one thing and the final product offered us something different, and generally talking we can say the reaction was not positive. The sales and posts here speak for themselves. But I feel like Demolicious is what the trilogy should have been. The songs have so much more energy, and the trilogy songs totally lack it. Billie's voice sounded like if he had no soul. However, in Demolicious he sounds like he's having so much fun and I love that you can perfectly distinguish Mike's voice like in 'old school' Green Day. They literally made me go from that state of 'Well... That's what we get? Oh... The songs are good... I guess' to 'OH MY GOD! I wish I could see them live again!'.

I'm sorry, I just can't put it into words  Lately I didn't even listen to them because I was kinda tired of listening to them all the time, I just had them as my favorite band and still considered myself their fan, but I was taking a little break. But then I listened to Demolicious and it was like 'WHY DID I EVEN STOP LISTENING TO YOU!?'.

I think you can really see in these versions of the songs that the lyrics aren't just meaningless like people think they are. They might be to fans if they don't relate and since we're all used to elaborate metaphors and whatnot, but you can hear the emotion and passion in Billie's voice and they obviously do mean something to him.

I remember driving myself nuts to get the trilogy guitar tone, especially Uno..
But Demolicious is exactly how my guitar sounds when I plug in and play

Small things like these are making me appreciate the songs more!

Yeah! As well as getting to enjoy the different little things in demo versions it's making me notice things about the finished versions that I hadn't before. It's really cool to kind of hear the songs from another angle.

Now we might actually have trilogy fan favorites

Plenty of us already do :P

I forget which song I noticed this in, but one of them had a different lyric adjective that was later replaced by "fuckin'" on the trilogy. This actually disappoints me because I know a lot of us have been critical of Billie's sort of overuse of 'fuckin' simply because it wasn't very creative and he could have used more interesting, descriptive words. I can't remember which song it is on Demolicious (possibly Fell For You? Angel Blue?), but it showed me that using all these 'fucking's was actually a deliberate thing on Billie's part, because he changed lyrics from what were originally regular words to that. In a way it's comforting because it shows that he thought it through and re-wrote based on what he was feeling was the best way to communicate, but on the other hand it's disappointing because I would hope that he would realize that although there are perfect uses of curse words and they should stay prevalent in Green Day's music, to use them to death doesn't really impress anyone artistically.

Baby Eyes. I dunno I like to know that Billie knows other adjectives that aren't vulgar.

Yeah, in Makeout Party he changed it from "little delinquent" to "fucking delinquent". I think in that case it's better with fucking tbh.

Edit: Actually just listened to it, in the demo it says "like a fucking delinquent" in the first verse and "you're a little delinquent" in the second verse (whereas in the finished version it's "you're a fucking delinquent" both times). Maybe it is more interesting with fucking only one of the times. I think it'd work better with fucking the second time rather than the first though, if it was going to be perfect :P

There's also the "wanna live with normal people" in Let Yourself Go which turned into "always fucking with my head now"

I think the "fucking with my head now" thing is way better than the "wanna live with normal people" thing. Both are cool but I think the version they went with works better with the song, more aggressive and demented.

I sort of prefer the Red 7 version of that part of the song because I felt like the "Always fuck fuckin' with my head now" part was repetitive and at least the Red 7 version had some variety in the lyrics

Yeah, that's right (considering only how the lyrics fit to the song) ^^ But I find that the "wanna live with normal" sounds better :P

I do too, but I mean songs that are known to be good in the fanbase even if you don't like them, like Holiday, JoS, Going to Pasalqua, Know Your Enemy, WMUWSE...

I really like Demolicious. It´s just fresh from the heart, expression of a moment, and I especially like the drums in State of Shock. And I like the idea of them all playing together without numerous tracks and tricks, just experimenting and trying out. I LOVE it! So i definitely want more live-albums and more demos. I think they are at their best when they catch the moment 1:1, be it stage or studio. ;)

I think that Demolicious has proved that if Green Day had just released 17 songs with a dirtier guitar tone, the "Trilogy" era would have probably been one of Green Day's best eras. (Obviously with the rehab and everything it probably wouldn't have been as good an era as "American Idiot") I hope that Green Day see how we've all reacted to this and record their next album live.

The trilogy had no overproduction on it it's their least produced album since Kerplunk...

The vocal filter is what makes it sound like it was

And Green Day has never used auto tune (at least on a studio album)
