klytaemnestra
The quicker it is the better, because then it's not as long. and that, my friends, is what sarah said. it's been over an hour and no one said it ok i had to.
DookieLukie
Wow, do we really agree on something 100%?! Mind = blown. What's your statistical ranking, just play count? I put a lot of pointless work into giving each Trilogy song a numeric score/rating based on various aspects. Mainly lyrics, instrumental, and a sort of random "x" factor. This of course isn't completely statistical because it involved my opinions, but I ranked the songs using this method. When I go through the list I made, they were perfectly ranked based on my tastes, so it was a success.

I'm intrigued based on the fact that we have an identical top five.

Z J
I think top 5 from the trilogy has to be: Brutal Love, Stay The Night, Nuclear Family, Rusty James, and maybe Stray Heart. Just based on a combo of lyrics, melodies, and just general impact on GD's catalog, those songs stand out to me, except for maybe Stray Heart which is more of a guilty pleasure i suppose. EastCaitNowhere
American Idiot would have been better if Extraordinary Girl wasn't on it. I really liked 21st Century Breakdown as an album.

Guest
Brutal Love is okay. While it does showcase BJA's above average vocal talent, it does so at the expense of being too long, awkwardly structured, and not particularly original.

While it does showcase BJA's above average vocal talent, it does so at the expense of being too long, awkwardly structured, and not particularly original. I think it has an excellent build up. The vocals are an obvious plus. But I think it also is a step outside their comfort zone just a bit, which I like. While the melody was borrowed in part, i think the lyrics are excellent, some of the most honest-feeling writing we get in the trilogy. The emotion he puts in to it live supports that.
Spike
The best part of Brutal Love is the drop into the coda. The first section is decent but nothing special, then that falling melody comes in and it's just the best release of tension in any Green Day song other than Restless Heart Syndrome.

Spike
restless heart syndrome? uptight wasnt bad either... Yeah, the build up with all the false releases before it finally drops into the solo is like the best thing they've ever done. With Uptight are you referring to the really long verse going into the first chorus?
Z J
Green Day is very good at building tension in their songs. BOBD, Before the Lobotomy, Letterbomb, Brutal Love, Panic Song, Restless Heart Syndrome, among many others have great energy build ups. Brutal Love definitely ranks high among that group
