I guess I never really put myself in his shoes of having the addiction.

You can only listen to Lazy Bones in this light.  Its pain.  The lyrics are not on the same level as RHS which are some of his finest.

^I agree about Ashley. Nothing wrong with it.

Amy is great & Ive said it before I think different of it now @Second favourite son said BJ was writing it about himself.

Yeah he was but not in a self-indulgent way. I think with songs like Little Boy Named Train he was like "this was inspired by someone else but I wrote a song about myself" while there's actually a lot of compassion in Amy (both for her and himself).

  • Know Your Enemy is a terrible opener (and song in general)
  • They should stop playing Basket Case, Jesus of Suburbia, When I Come Around, and Longview live
  • They should start playing Kill the DJ, Desensitized, Jinx, and Oh Love live
  • Mike's bass lines have been generally boring since Warning with a few exceptions (Minority, Nuclear Family, Dirty Rotten Bastards)

Not sure how unpopular these are since I can't be bothered to read 570+ pages but there you go.

The new album better have a song they deem worthy of replacing KYE as their opener. Yet another tour with that shit will drive me crazy, enough already

Lazy Bones does have some bad lyrics...

(i.e. Everyone keeps talking and they can’t shut the fuck up cause I’m so tired)

I actually like that line, it's relatable as fuck.

BUT we need to remember, they are playing concerts for a whole range of people, not just the small number on here and KYE was a huge hit for them.  I have always thought it was one of their weaker singles but what do I know.

There are times I read posts and think here that really, we are all just spoiled with the quality and quantity of music we get from GD.  OK, they don't hit the mark always, of course not but my god their back catalogue is awesome and even some of their songs we think are a bit below par, well listen to them after a day with radio!  Just listen to the songs and stop over-analysing.

Oh absolutely.  I can recognize this and understand why they still play BC, WICA, etc. instead of some deep cuts that obsessive fans like myself would like to hear live.  I do think they do a good job of throwing in a few more "obscure" tracks here and there (2000 LYA, Armatage Shanks).  Luckily for the vast majority of concert attendees I'm not in charge of the setlist because it would be all B-sides and unreleased tracks 😝.

Stop Drop and Roll is the best Green Day (not Green day) album

I don't think it's the best thing they've done, but it's definitely better than everything they've released since Nimrod.

Yes we all know they have lots of great songs and that they have fans who mostly know their hits. That isn't a reason for having the same song as an opener for god knows how many years imo. Of course they're free to do whatever they want but I'm just so bored with it. Whenever I see them live it's great obv but holy fuck I'd be so excited and relieved about a new opener.

I've said it before, I don't understand the need to 'defend' GD whenever someone is critical of them. Everyone on here is a huge fan and obviously appreciate them lol.

In regards to the Ashley discussion on the previous page, Ashley is a top 15 GD song for me and literally the reason why Dos is one of my favourite albums.

KYE was the opener during how many years?
Because last time I check it was only during RevRad tour.

Uno Dos Tré it was 99 Revolutions.
21stCB tour it was Song of The Century follow by 21st CB.
American Idiot tour well the song didn't exist.

Bang Bang is a pretty solid opener, IMO.

And @jengd is right. We need to remember that the shows aren't just attended by die-hards.

I can see why they'd pick KYE as an opener to, as Billie says, "break down that wall" between the audience and the band. It's creates the interaction immediately. BUT there are better songs to have as that first one.

KYE wasn't that big of a hit. I think they play it all the time because they enjoy playing that song live. If they really wanted to play all their biggest hits live, then surely they would be playing 21 Guns

I think they actually did open with Bang Bang at the first few shows but then they chickened out and went back to KYE. Bit of a shame :P. Like I get playing familiar songs to get the crowd going etc and am usually the first to defend it but I do think they could have a little more confidence in their new songs than that, Bang Bang is awesome and gets the crowd going perfectly well. When the tour is named after a new album I do think they should take some chances with the new songs from it rather than just hiding them away later in the setlist.

The worst part of playing KYE and Bang Bang back to back is that they were essentially playing two openers. There’s obviously the break in KYE where they do their little solos and pull someone up, and then Bang Bang there’s also that break to get everyone pumped up again. I think either would work as an opener, and the other should just be played straight through and it’d be much better.

They'd be playing 21 Guns if Billie could hit the note in the chorus

When they played 21 Guns before, he didn't try to hit the note. He could just continue to do it how he always did
