I love that it's a darker album, it reflects what they were going through at the time... I love punk rock and this is just a great punk album. Some people don't like that, which is fine, everyone's entitled to like what they like, but adding trilogy guitar tones like someone suggested in another thread? Fuuuuuuuck that!!

I don't even think Insomniac is darker than other albums they've done, and I love too what you describe as "very punk" in that album. Personally, not saying that it isn't good the way it is, but the trilogy is also very punk in its own way, and the fact for me is I started really getting into Insomniac after hearing recent performances of some songs off Insomniac. Where they add vocal variations and solos. Curiously it made me enjoy the album version much more than before, for what it is. Because I got into the songs and their vibe.

Green Day have so many albums now and I like all of them so at this point it's virtually impossible to rank them and I've pretty much given up on it.

This x100000.

I think the production of Insomniac is pretty much perfect, it totally fits the mood of those songs. A lot of people love that they add solos to those songs live and change the vocals up but I don't like it, I think they seem out of place. Some people don't like that, which is fine, everyone's entitled to like what they like, but adding trilogy guitar tones like someone suggested in another thread? Fuuuuuuuck that!! I love the super distorted tone, but I do gotta say that Kevin Army did a better job mixing the tone in JAR than Jerry Finn did on the album, the songs were from the same session but idk, maybe they used a different setup for that song? The only thing I would change is the drum mix, they sound a little dull to me

Wasn’t JAR done during Dookie?

I feel like Uno is definitely underrated, it's got at least 5 stone cold GD classics on it imo.

the entire trilogy is underrated

The credits have always said that it was engineered by Kevin Army, so if it wasn't the Insomniac sessions then it had to be its own separate session because he didn't record dookie

Ah cool I have the soundtrack to Angus but lost the booklet years ago but yeah Army would make it Insomniac sessions and I see wiki saying recorded April 1995 interesting I guess they recorded it differently than the other songs cause JAR isn’t an angry punk song like the other songs is my theory now

Somebody on here (it might've been @Grubby Poop) had a cool idea that they could bring a fan onstage to sing the Lady Cobra parts. I think that would be amazing.

Yes, but the whole idea was that I would be the fan singing the Lady Cobra part. I've been practicing for years.

I want then to play DRB. I don’t think they’ve played it live, ever.

Honestly that would be a car crash  (unless it was @Grubby Poop who has practiced it so well of course)

I just had a very clear yet disturbing vision of Billie having a whole audience chanting “Grubby poop, grubby poop” 😂

There's nothing in particular that I dislike about it, but I don't care for the song Minority. Quite fun live because it's energetic but I never listen to the album version and wouldn't mind never hearing it live either.

I like the lyrics but musically it's not one of my favourites either, it's too folksy/like an Irish jig for me :P

:shok: Minority is one of the main songs that got me into GD. I wouldn't be here without it.

Me too. It’s one of the first songs I connected with and made me realize this is a band that gets me and I must love them in return. 🙂

I might've got into GD 5 years earlier if it wasn't for Minority. Someone tried to get me into them in like 2000/2001 but (along with already assuming they were just another one of the crappy pop punk bands that were around at the time) I heard that and was like no thanks . I do legitimately like the song now as it's catchy and has really great lyrics but I like folk/whatever the correct term for that style is least out of all the styles they've experimented with :P

Am I the only one who always thinks of GDA when I hear that song? The original site was called Green Day Minority as a reference to it and then when it became a proper news source it it was changed to Green Day Authority (also from the song) so I have to think of it when it goes I don't need your authority

Without being a fan for so long, I must say I started to love Minority after seeing it live the first time, in February last year. I was like: what is this song? it's so refreshing . And then after the gig I realized it was Minority. It's one of those songs I didn't love at first album version listen. The same goes for a fair part of my favorite songs. The other part are songs I've loved from fist (album version) listen but that have never, or almost never, been played live :P

I do not understand the hate for Sex Drugs & Violence chorus, a lot of the trilogy shits on anything they did prior to Dookie

I like minority live more than on  the album I think it's defiantly one of their different sounding songs

It is catchy and I do like the verses for SD&V quite a lot but the lyrics in that chorus are a bit dumb tbh. I kind of get it even if I do still like the song as a whole
