I don't really agree with this way of describing things... we live in more troubled times than ever. To me RevRad hit points in a freaking right way. Reflection, social commentary, that has already been the case, and yeah I believe as well and hope Billie will keep on with it. He would want to write even strongest songs about what has been happening since 2016. Safe, RevRad? I don't think of it as safe or unsafe, it touches me to what's the deepest in me. It made me change. And I am extremely looking forward for the next masterpiece now

I agree that we live in more troubled times than ever, that's why I said it was like the upsidedown!  LOL. I think when RevRad was written, it reflects a preTrump world.  And the revolution that Billie (and a lot of the rest of us) wanted was suppose to come from the left.  So yes, he definitely was writing/reflecting about what he knew at the time, not the shitshow we are living through right now. I also would hope that what he is writing now/next would be an even stronger reaction to what is happening right now.  I see revrad as safe because it doesn't take too many risks musically.  It's a tight album, 12 songs, solid lyrically, but nothing too experimental.  I also think it needed to be just that tho.  AI & CB were musically and lyrically game changers in GDs shift into rock opera.  The trilogy, was an attempt to take that even further, I think, but it is sort of became unfocused and manic in some ways.  The trilogy is like Billie at his best, and at his worst, all wrapped up, ugly and beautiful at the same time.  I think revrad helped to reset GD and get some composure and perspective back.  In some ways it reminds me of Warning (which I also love BTW).  That being said, being safe is not a diss in any way.  I love revrad, and many of the songs spoke to me on a deep, personal level too.  I think (and hope) moving forward that Billie will have a lot to say about our current state and I hope it drives him artistically as well.

Yeah, RevRad describing a pre-Trump world but everything is even truer now (I got that you made that point too)... To me, RevRad could as well have been written right now. But as things are, now we are waiting for a new album, and that's all the better. Also, I don't agree with revolution being supposed to "come from the left"... It's not what you're saying, but to me that's just another open door to (possible) division. A revolution that's politically colored will have the effect of making a good fraction of people left behind, those who won't listen to politics anymore, and those who won't listen to the opposite side. Still, a desire for better could be inspired by some politics, but perhaps more likely by stuff that's not political, like Green Day's music, for instance, which can allow revolution, in the sense it can really make people change, thinking in a newer and deeper way and care for each other. Living their own revolution in their personal life, and aiming at preserving basic human values that go beyond opinions, left and right.

I don't think of RevRad as safe or not safe, and that being a diss or not; there are other features to the album, which "experimental" is not the first word that comes in mind to describe, and that make it the most unique album to me.

I don't think the trilogy is an attempt to take further what was done with AI and CB, and I never thought of it as unfocused (I can see why you're saying it though). The trilogy shows how the worst can be the best, the ugly the beautiful. :P

I don't like Say Goodbye... the lyric video however is the coolest.

I've heard a few people say that but I don't really understand why. To me, it's one of the songs from RevRad that's as good as it was on the first listen

It's the song on RevRad that took me the more time to love, I don't know why.

I don't know how unpopular (or uncommon) this is, but I don't think it ever happened to me that I liked a song more at first listen than afterwards. Even when I've loved a song at first listen, I've never felt that it decreases with time. For most of the songs (and a good part of my favorites) I need several listens before really loving them.

I love Say Goodbye but I agree about the video! Legitimately one of GD's best videos even thought it's just a lyric one. Totally makes up for the lack of proper East Jesus Nowhere video years ago.

Weird opinion.

I love Only of You, but find it a rough listen. :pinch:

The vocals, bass, and drums are on point for early Green Day. But that guitar.. What happened? It just feels more screechy than the other songs on 1039/SOHH. While yes, the guitar sounded just as raw on other songs from the album, it still felt appropriate to the tone of the song. Only of You on the other hand? It's combining bouncy drum and bass lines with a hard guitar sound. When combined is just unpleasant.

Geek Stink Breath is one of my least favourites from Insomniac (probably because I always think of the video for it)

Billie Joe as a blonde with small moustache and beard is the best Billie Joe.

Only reason why i'm putting this as ''unpopular opinion'' is that most of comments I've seen is Billie Joe is better with black hair and as a babyface.

EDIT: Added originally a link but for some reason it never worked. Just search Green Day Red 7 2011 in Google if you want to see da best Billie Joe look.

Oh believe me there's some blond and/or scruffy Billie fans here :D. It is the less common preference though.

That Billie Joe is the only reason I got my hair bleached, so yeah I do love this look a lot on him as well. And I also like when he has a small moustache and a stubble. But the black hair with baby face like you say is my favorite in the long run :P even though I don't require him to dye completely his hair, I like when there's a bit of white left on the sides

I'll put it in for you because Billie should always be seen.  And black haired Billie will always be my favorite, but the one time I do like him with blond hair is when it's longer/messy and he's scruffy like here or the 2008 Pinhead Gunpowder show.

Based on his comments in Broadway Idiot I think Billie agrees with you.

@Smoldering Panda I'm ashamed to say it but me too. Particularly extraordinary girl.

21 Guns to me sounds better in a choir-like fashion. And the Rock and Roll Girlfriend portion of Homecoming is great as well.

I've only managed to get through the AI musical soundtrack once because it makes me cringe so much. Not my cup of tea at all.

Yeah like I appreciate what they were going for but for the most part it sounds like bad karaoke.

I haven't even listened to the AI musical soundtrack yet because I just assume it won't be nearly as good

On the subject of black-haired or blonde-haired Billie, I really couldn't pick a favourite, he looks fabulous either way.

As for the AI musical soundtrack, I haven't listened to the full thing, just the odd song, but I can't say that I have any interest in listening to the rest of it. I don't particularly dislike that type of stuff, but I'm not a huge fan of it either.

Am I the only one who think Billie Joe looks very slightly like Ted Bundy (but obviously attractive and not creepy :P)?

I just read that as Al Bundy and was quite confused.

You just made me study pictures of Ted Bundy . Thankfully I can't see the resemblance.

And I can't see any resemblance either. He's way too creepy looking (and I'm not just saying that because he's a killer, he's genuinely just a creepy looking guy). I can't see any similarity between him and our cute little Billie Joe.
