I actually like More Than A Feeling, is it weird? :P

Anyway, I'm just trying to cope. I definitely should stop listening to oldies stations or else it ruins all newer music for me

FIRST THING I THOUGHT WHEN I LISTENED TO THE ALBUM.

Thanks. So I'm not alone who hears this. I think it's same chords/harmony but I'm not sure, my hearing is far from perfect.

Something is definitely similar, I think in the chorus? I can't pin down exactly what it is, but it's there.

It's the opening bars and chorus. Figured it out.

I think it's not only the chorus. First time I realized this, I was listening to MTAF and I was like "what does this remind me of?" and during the chorus it dawned on me and I was like "sooooooomewheeeere now omg fuck you Billie", so I think the similarity is somewhere else and it's quite subtle. It's been months since I heard either but my guess is the guitar part/some parts on the melody.

I really hear it here. But it is definitely there.

It's in the same key but the chord progressions aren't the same. Just similar in some parts. But still OMG

I wonder if it's a coincidence or a "coincidence".

Dammit, Billie!

I actually wonder if it's just subtle enough most people don't really notice, but sort of feel a nostalgic connection to the song. It's definitely an original Green Day song, it's not plageristc in my eyes at all, but it's got this under the radar feeling that I bet tapped into people's emotions. I call manipulation! :P

I love Somewhere Now because of the classic rock vibe.

And hating Forever Now, how?? :o I hope they keep playing it live forever!

Me either. I hate it only slightly less than somewhere now.

Lol, you're the very first person I've seen on this forum that I actually know to be also Swiss (or maybe just living in Switzerland) and this is the opinion you put forward? haha

...just joking, I of course respect your opinion, but man do I disagree

I'm American. Painfully American. I just am on an expat assignment in Switzerland.

I just don't like the song much; I'm not sure what that has to do with my Swiss-ness or lack thereof?

It's  fine to disagree of course :D

EDIT: I see now; also Swiss. Sorry but that

Oh haha, now that's certainly a funny twist! Seems like I yet have to come across a genuine Swiss person lol

But yeah, I can actually see where you're coming from in parts of your critique, but emotionally I somehow really connect with the song on some level. I can also certainly see the similarities to Boston More Than A Feeling, but I think that's a good thing. The song definitely sounds inspired by classic rock (mostly Boston and The Who come to mind) and that happens to be a music style (and bands) that I also love, so...

Lol, I actually thought I was the only person in Switzerland at all on here, so this is a nice surprise, actually!

Yeah, I get that too. I emotionally connect with both Insomniac and ¡Dos! deeply, and those are two mix-reviewed albums. It's just not my song I guess. The sound isn't for me. I'm more of a Stones kind of classic rock fan, myself.

Failing to see the problem here. Every song should sound like More Than A Feeling. In fact every song should just BE More Than A Feeling.

Oh my god I didn't even think about it live! Most emotional and epic performance of the show last year. It won't happen but it should totally replace JOS.

I'm crying! Jesus of Suburbia is life! :P

Everything. From start to end. Especially the end where everything (lyrics, instruments) is complete mess and I can't enjoy it at all.

Somewhere Now, a complete mess? I love that mess then. I connect very deeply with every word of it. Especially the last sentence

I don't know the songs SN makes some of you guys think of, but as in most GD songs what touches me the most are the lyrics. I'd say that in Somewhere Now the music comes as a consecration of the passion contained in these lyrics, and I'm sure when I'll listen to the other songs that have been mentioned, it won't have much to do with the euphoria SN drives me in.

I agree, but Forever Now is even more life. This song celebrates life in a way I can't even tell. When they play this part... it fills me with an incommensurable joy (as well as the whole song... but this instrumental part is to me the greatest celebration of being alive ever):

They could always skip Shout and have Forever Now, JOS and Homecoming :P

I don't want Shout ti go, but I'd accept anything as for them to keep Still Breathing followed by Forever Now. And I'd be totally for playing Homecoming instead of Jesus of Suburbia, perhaps not both:P

Yeah I'm all up for dropping JOS and/or Shout in favor of different songs on the setlist.

I am saddened by all the negative opinions of SN, FN, and JOS  (but that's what I get for reading this thread ;)). I think the real solution though set-wise is  either a) they play for 3 hours, or b) They rotate a few songs. I'd be devastated if JOS was dropped from the set because that means it's gone for the whole tour and maybe permanently and it's one of my favorites. But if they occasionally swap it out for Homecoming I could live with that for the sake of hearing a song I haven't heard live.

I'd easily take JoS over SN or FN, they may all be big anthemic songs but to me JoS is just so much better lyrically and I just feel a lot more real passion in it, like SN and FN might have sound big and strong but that feels kinda hollow to me because the actual content isn't a well-made enough statement to deserve it. Sure, they're clearly honest, but it's written such on-the-nose and simplistic terms, which isn't a bad thing in itself but you then need a hell of a lot of fire to back it up (Stiff Little Fingers, who influenced Billie a hell of a lot, have always stated things plainly in their lyrics, but it doesn't come off as simplistic because of the emotion they put into saying it and playing it). A lot of Nimrod is straightforward, honest and personal, but to me those tracks do it so much better than FN or SN by not trying too hard to get specific talking-points in and not trying to be these big great anthems.

JOS is obviously a great song but it just doesn't do anything particularly special for me as a live song. They don't really do anything interesting with it, just playing it through, and pretty much every other AI song is a more entertaining performance, and with Forever Now they have another big passionate song that's just as effective. I don't think it has anything special enough about it as a live song (of course as a song in general it's known as their most impressive but I'm strictly talking live) to deserve staying on the setlist when so many other AI songs that are both more entertaining and bigger hits are already there.
