Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

I hated the time span where Billie would ALWAYS mention "Stop When the Red Lights Flash." It just never made sense to me, and I literally skip the beginning of Oh Love so I can avoid hearing him sing "Don't stop when the red lights flash" because it is just DUMB.

I don't even know how popular that phrase is among GDC so maybe this is actually a popular opinion rather than unpopular

I don’t actually know what you’re referring to. What other times did he mention it besides in the songs?

And on an earlier topic, maybe someone ought to send this to Billie:

I love this song - its all about dirty deeds:)

OW is a perfect ending to RevRad - I don't think it is filler at all & fits perfectly with Bj's theme - except for the line

Baby, I don't have much
But what we have is more than enough  (being a multi millionaire doesnt' fit)

I actually just meant in the songs. I over exaggerated a lot there, my bad

You mean if the lyrics were:

"Baby we don't have much

But I just checked my net worth

It's out of this woooorrrlllldddddd"

it'd have a slightly different meaning?

Seriously though, I think the song and lyrics are awesome. The lyrical content can be either taken in context as a throw-back to a simpler time when they were young and had nothing much aside from their love, etc. Or it could be a present day interpretation whereas yeah, they might have a lot of financial resources now and everything they could have ever hoped for materially, but that stuff isn't important to them (which I firmly believe) and there's nothing of importance to him greater than their relationship. Either way, it works well. And as we know, many people who are successful and do well (and even incredibly well) financially don't really put too much stock in their net worth or whether they're worth ten, a hundred, or several hundred million- their relationships and legacy are far more self- defining attributes. And I firmly believe Billie is in this category. Yes, for many high net worth individuals, total net worth is a defining characteristic, but I honestly think that for the guys in Green Day (like many others), it's not a top priority. I'm not mentioning this because I thought you believed otherwise, I'm just throwing it out there because I think it's worth mentioning.

Also the song was for the movie and the charector wasn’t rich lol

I agree. Plus the movie thing like @WhiteTim said. Still can't help thinking of him being a millionaire when he sings it and being mildly amused though :P

I thought that article was going to give advice about where to pee when in a stadium and about to go on stage

@TimmyChunks - love your alternative lyrics for OW :D

Oh remembered another pee story — in a bottle in the back of the Van (Econoline or Bookmobile, I forget) 😄

I don't really see why it's so annoying to you. And I definitely don't understand why it'd bother you so much that you'd feel the need to skip the beginning of Oh Love just so you wouldn't have to hear that line. I think it's a pretty interesting line tbh.

It’s just one of those things that annoys me, that’s all.

And "Cause you ain't worth the shit under my shoes or the piss on the ground."

Are you guys trying to hijack every GDC thread with posts about Billie and piss? It's happened in at least four different threads in the past few months.

Hey, I said the fangirl thread was going to start leaking (no pun intended) into other threads.

You would think that us fangirls would have something better to do with our days than talk about Billie and pee. Apparently not...:ermm::lol:

I was thinking about this the other day and it’s something that bothers me too, me and my boyfriend frequently have trilogy discussions on long drives and these were specific lyrics that annoy us both. I get that it ties everything together but in my opinion it’s such a weird tie that I can’t figure out.

I can understand if you don't like it, that is just personal preference. But I don't understand how you think it is dumb? Can you explain?

Yes, that's a super funny and likely unintentional joke all in itself. This poor beat down schlub making minimum wage at a hardware store playing his little song and trying to send a message to the one he loves, and having her brush it off and pay no attention..meanwhile the actual actor is a rock legend with millions of adoring fans who would kill for a private session like that. And that's a scene where he pulls of the character convincingly well nonetheless...that to me is  interesting stuff and pretty amusing in many respects. Good call WhiteTim and Hermione.
