Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

I don't know, to me it looks like Billie puts so much effort into hitting the right notes in SB that he has less space for...idk how to express it..uhm..conveying the emotional impact. FN feels much stronger.

Both songs release a lot of power, I would say in a very different / complementary way. I could sum it up by saying, as FN does feel impressively strong, SB feels impressively vulnerable. To me, it's the contrary, the high notes being hard to hit for Billie during Still Breathing completely serve the conveying of emotion, as they are one integral part of the great vulnerability he shows in the song. The way he relies so hardly on the audience for singing with him several of the high notes - "still" - is another essential part of it too. I totally lose it with that song

It might be that my default reaction to SB is "oh my God, it's gonna end soon nooooooo" so I probably miss a part of it due to freaking out.

I just don't feel so strongly about SB either way. I always have to persuade myself the lyrics aren't as cliched as they sound at their face value. I have to actively try to "feel it", while with FN, the emotion comes much more easily.

That's an unpopular opinion right? :P

I don't know about the rest of the world, but on this forum, it seems that my fave songs off RevRad are everyone else's least faves, and my least faves are everyone else's faves. Like, I really really like Troubled Times, RevRad, BOTW, OW and Youngblood and I've loved them ever since I first heard the album, but they all seem to be quite unpopular on this site. Also, I'm not a huge fan of Forever Now (unless its live), Somewhere Now, or Still Breathing, but most people on here seem to love them.:D

Troubled times is my favorite song off of rev rad.

I love the entire record. Outlaws is the only song I can skip.

There's nothing I dislike about your opinion ;).

Damn, there's nothing wrong not being into a song, or even disliking it. The only opinion I recommend to be unpopular is to "actively try to feel" something! If you ever like Still Breathing one day it'll not come by actively trying, I think...

Yeah, Outlaws is probably my least favourite RevRad song too.

I'm just glad I'm finally seeing some love for Troubled Times.:runaround::wub:

This is really unpopular and I hate feeling this way but I was watching Hills right now and I wish I could still get fucked up and go to shows and have Billie acting a fool like that again but I’ll never get that fucked up again, and god willing either will Billie, but I still miss it so much. Weak thought moment as I watched.

Thats next level partying.

I get it. Everyone likes drunk Rev. It was a party no doubt. Just because he can’t do it anymore doesn’t mean you can’t admit those were good times (even he would probably admit that). I don’t smoke anymore but I look back on times I did as good times.

(And that first one is super hot. Had to watch that about a dozen times, but wrong thread)

I wonder if there is a difference between Drunk Rev and St. Jimmy. They are both fictional characters but one could argue that St. Jimmy is Billie’s “real” alter ego. That red guy on his shoulder that makes him so devishliy awesome. Hmmmm, something to not think about.

I think the RR singles are starting to wear out on me tbh. Bang Bang was one of my favourites, now not soo much. RevRad and Still Breathing were a bit quicker to wear out. I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion

St.jimmy is the Devil on his shoulder saying, “Hey boy, come on.”

No St. Jimmy is the manifestation of listening to that little devil. :) that’s what I would think anyway.

But drunk Rev as @pacejunkie punk said is the actual Billie version of that guy. Are they the same? Just a thought. I say yes.

Of course when we say drunk Rev, I mean the hopped on speed, alcohol, the short MDMA phase, and other things that you should never even think of. Live while you’re young but don’t ruin your adulthood.

I would have said : drunk Rev is the Saint Jimmy version of Billie... :P

Unpopular opinion. I'm not crazy about Know Your Enemy.

I'm not crazy about it, but I like hearing it, starting with album version. It's one of the songs I automatically want to sing along, even though it isn't one of my favorites.

The "Know Your Enemy" thing sends back to Restless Heart Syndrome which is in my top 5 Green Day songs, where Billie sings "I am my own worst enemy, you are your own worst enemy". The song hasn't been played live a lot, but I remember having heard Billie mention it more than once in interviews from the 21st CB era, and mentioning that connection between the two songs. Somehow it made me enjoy KYE more than before.

Here I think of an unpopular opinion of mine: I like the least watching live videos of the songs where Billie invites fans on stage (Know Your Enemy, Longview, and Knowledge), more because I want to hear Billie's voice exclusively than because of pure jealousy. :P But most of the time, when I actually see such videos, I don't get bored. Some few times I really feel a lot of sympathy for the fan invited. It just takes me some effort before I start to watch.

My favorite live video of KYE I can think of is:

@Kuromignonne that one is great because I love how closely he watches after they dive to make sure they’re okay. He gets people of all different comfort levels and he’s always so encouraging.
