top 3 GD album for me

21CB really was a great album for me, i don't see how some people were disappointed by it. If anything, the trilogy was more disappointing. I don't know, i wasn't a fan in 2009 so i can't tell you how much it was hyped.

The follow-up to American Idiot...? No pressure, I'm sure. :P

Sorry if i sound dumb, but I don't fully get what you're trying to say. I blame my stupidity right now on my tiredness.

I like the entirety 21st Century Breakdown. I doubt anyone else does.

That's where you're wrong! Love every song and the album as a whole. At the time it came out this wasn't unusual at all, it was indeed hyped a lot and many of the reviews it got absolutely raved about it and said it was as good as or better than American Idiot and gave it higher ratings. Kerrang gave American Idiot 4/5 and 21st CB 5/5. It was only after it turned out not to be as successful and impactful that the reception cooled down (Kerrang later claiming to have given it a lower rating when mentioning it). Although even then it still won the Best Rock Album Grammy the following year. It was very popular here too, I think that's also cooled but it's still generally liked and not hated or anything. Christian's Inferno has always been widely disliked, but I don't get that :P

As Alyssa was saying, it was set-up to be disappointing. The deck was stacked against it, and I really think they did an admirable job of expanding their sound while trying to build on what they did with AI. It didn't try too hard to be AI, it expanded their sound, and it delivered some of their objectively strongest work. Those three things are pretty impressive when you consider the beast that 21CB was following up. American Eulogy, 21CB (track), Before the Lobotomy and East Jesus Nowhere are really the stand outs as far as contribution-to-catalog goes, at least for me.

What I'm saying is, with how successful and surprising American Idiot was, its follow-up had no choice to be hyped beyond belief... Which really isn't a good thing because, like most sequels, it just sets it up for failure. Considering all the pressure they faced to produce something that could hold a candle to American Idiot, they didn't do that bad. Personally, I don't like 21CB, but a lot of people do.

Definitely not an unpopular opinion for me - its my most played album.

Atleast I get my daily dose of laughter when someone claims 21CB or AI are in top 3 GD albums

Oh Seagull go eat another chippie.

AI is in top 3. 21st CB isn't, not for me anyway.

It's no Insomniac.

Insomniac is the best blockbuster follow up for anything, ever. Music or not. They managed to tell everyone to fuck off AND make an all-time great punk rock album that is even better than the blockbuster that came before it.
