Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

What people find funny is subjective.  Some people actually find Will Ferrell funny.  I personally find root canals funnier.  If Hermione finds it funny then it is funny to her.

And since when is Beck comedic???

Oh sorry, I wasn't talking about "how funny this or that is". People are entitled to their own opinions on comedy. But if some snoozefest of a song that's trying to be serious leaves me going "What the hell was that?" after a specific line then that's not a good sign.

And Beck was always tongue-in-cheek when he chose to be, such as on Mellow Gold, Odelay, and Midnite Vultures. While comedy isn't the whole point of the album, they're all extremely tongue in cheek. I find "Where It's At" and "Sexx Laws" to not only be fucking awesome, but also fucking hilarious.

Oh sorry, the untrue bit was referring to Ceadagh saying I like everything Green Day related . I should've made that more clear. As far as Wild One I don't think the song as a whole gives off a comedic vibe, I just think that particular rhyme is intended to be slightly tongue in cheek/lighthearted.

Wait, you DON'T love everything Green Day related? ;)

My point was that if a song is a "snoozefest" is totally subjective.  That is the beauty of any form of art, it is open to the viewer or listeners interpretation.  You may hate a song but I guarantee there is someone out there who thinks it is their favorite.   There is no right or wrong on if a song is good or bad, just personal taste.

You do know you're posting that in a thread called "Unpopular Green Day Opinions", right?

"Always fuck, fucking with my head now", "Now you're sucking on a doorknob that I slammed in your face", the entirety of "The Forgotten", the two references to drinking Angel piss, Lady Cobra's verses on "Nightlife". Not the Billie's finest lyrical moments.

Yes I do.  The last I looked it was unpopular to defend someones enjoyment of the trilogy while saying you dislike the trilogy is actually a popular opinion.  Therefore, I think I am in the right thread and you are not.

That is also subjective. It's hard for me to say which side is the majority, honestly. But I think you got the wrong message out of my post, what I meant was that we can't go around saying "Well that's subjective and people will disagree with you". This thread is literally dedicated to that. I think we're both in the right thread, here. :P

That is true, but I think the majority can agree that "I love your BMX-cellent tits" was not considered when Billie was voted one of the 100 best song writers of all time.

That made me laugh harder than it should have.

I disagree.  "Baby, baby, it's fuck time"  has a purpose.  He was simply stating the time of day something occurs.  I've marked it in my calendar.

Is that like beer o'clock? Cuz I have that on my calendar. LOL

@Not A Salad Yes I love Jaded. It gets me going and all wound up! I love it!

No, it's way more fun.

I am one of the few that actually likes Brain Stew better.  That is because the lyrics are just so real, so descriptive and so relatable.

The lyrics of Brain Stew are too good for Jaded to be better. Plus the awesomeness of the "duh duh, duh duh" guitar and the uniqueness of it (as far as Green Day songs go). Always surprises me how popular the opinion that Brain Stew is overrated/not that great is. Glad choosing between them isn't actually necessary though, they compliment each other really well.

Oh but the Brain Stew video is bad! The old woman lip syncing and random hula dancers and horse rolling around make it pretentious and silly, should've just kept the band at the dump part. Is this unpopular?

I'm still in shock that Hermione doesn't love everything Green Day-related.

Hey I thought I'd expressed my dislike for the AI musical and hatred for the JOS video sufficiently. Maybe I should post about it another hundred times :P

Friendly reminder that Green Day stole Brain Stew.

OH! I need your help with something. At the wedding I was at on Saturday, the DJ played some song that sounded EXACTLY like "Sally" by Foxboro Hot Tubs. I know it was obviously a very old song — I just have no clue what one. I was also drunk, so the entire memory of it is a bit foggy, but I remember freaking out. Do you know what song they ripped off in that instance?

Yep.

Can't really call the Foxboro songs stealing when it's so obvious, they were deliberately and openly putting their own spin on some iconic '60s songs. Unfortunately I'm aware of the PJ and Duncan version of I'm Not Your Stepping Stone and tend to think of that when I hear Sally

Also nicking one part of a song isn't the same as nicking the entire song, there's a lot more to Brain Stew than just that :P. The whole thing of the guitar being like "ROCK" is tongue in cheek anyway so not sure it matters all too much that that particular part isn't original.

But there isn't though. It's literally the same chord progression for 3 minutes with a slight variation of the strum pattern.

Random fact, the Foo Fighters did exactly the same thing with their single Walk a few years ago. Same chord progression for almost 5 minutes. Embarrassing stuff.

It might be an important part of it but there's more to the song that just the chord progression.

Almost every band in the world "borrows" chord progressions.  Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, etc.  This is not something that is limited to GD.  IT isn't embarrassing, it is part of the music business.  Almost everyone does it.
