Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

The Trilogy did not lack anything except a good explanation, there was nothing wrong with their music.

What should've been explained?

Because there is no explanation of this song on the album ...

1. They made a list of all potential songs to put on the three albums.

2. They made demos of all the potential songs to put on the three albums.

3. They listened to all the demos of all the potential songs to put on the three albums

4. IT was decided that Drama Queen was one of the best songs to put on the album.

I do not disagree because of what the song is about.... but If I had not been told what it was about... I would think that song was a threat.

I do not believe they would threaten people.

Let me tell you this: I am ugly because I think evil but I do not choose evil.

"Sassafras Roots" is one of the best songs on Dookie.

I think Warning is easily their best production wise and probably to most rock and roll listeners their most accessible. However it also easily has some of the most flawed songs of any of their projects.

Dookie is probably technically worse than nimrod and Kerplunk! tho it's easily the most catchy.

Stop Drop and Roll!!! is probably their best album since AI. And Highway 1 is easily their best song since Jesus of Surbia. It's just so original and bad ass.

Like what? I think Warning is actually pretty cohesive, compared to their other albums. Aside from Misery, which I routinely skip, I don't really feel like there are many filler songs.

I almost agree with you, 100%. Misery is one of the best songs on the album. There are no filler songs on Warning. It is easily right behind Dookie and AI for me.

I dunno, the title track is good lyrically but kind of filler in itself.

I REALLY want to like that song, but after hearing "Picture Book" I just can't.

Warning, Fashion Victim and Jackass all have great lyrics but are boring instrumentally to me and I would rate them quite low in general. Hold On is total filler. The rest of the album is pretty decent, but the gems are Church On Sunday, Castaway and Macy's Day Parade.

Church on Sunday > Jackass > Fashion Victim > Castaway > Warning

Lyrically, I'd even put Warning above Castaway. Castaway just really isn't that good. I don't understand the hype at all.

Castaway has arguably some of the best verses of Green Day's career, but I've always thought the chorus lets it down. It's still one of the best songs on Warning, but it's not perfect.

Warning has great songs on it but I wouldn't say it's their best production-wise, as it sounds a little bit tinny and shrill to me in some places :ermm:

Minority is like a schoolyard chant that just gets overbearingly repetitive. Waiting is ok but a couple parts are just horrible. Like the beginning of the song is good but after that it just kind of gets musically awkward. Warning is good but still pretty much the same borrowed riff over and over and over again. Blood Sex and Booze doesn't really work following Warning. Castaway and Fashion Victim are strong lyrically but ultimately crap. They last as decent songs for a little while because they're really different from almost all of their songs but over time stick as nothing but absolute filler. I actually think the best stretch of the whole album is Misery thru Jackass. Macy's Day Parade is totally superseeded by Whatsername as an album closer even tho i still like it to some degree, but still just kind of awkward and shallow melodically. Overall I feel like it's their most overlooked album so to true fans they have a hard time saying anything bad about it because it is overlooked. But that's all it really is. Just an average rock record. Nothing special just a changeup basically for green day. However Misery is brillant.

Serious. I mean ceadog has said a lot of the same things about it. It's just doesn't last as a good record. It's a good lyrical listen every once in awhile. Most of their records are just a lot better. It was a good stepping stone to American Idiot. Progressed as a band with it and got better plus their live shows in that era are some of the best.

Like I give a fuck what Ceadagh thinks. :P

But in all seriousness, your viewpoint just confuses me. You think Misery, Deadbeat Holiday, Hold On and Jackass are its best stretch of songs...? And Waiting and Macy's Day Parade are just OK?

Let me guess... you're a 21st Century Breakdown fan, aren't you?

I used to really like 21CB but don't anymore. Still like a few songs i guess, but generally dislike the path they started heading down with that album. That was the first green day album i really got into, so it has some sentimental value, but prefer early stuff as well as AI. I would say they green day albums i generally dislike now are Warning, 21CB, Uno, Dos, as well Tre just because it has a little too much filler. Like the direction they tried to go however, just needed better production and guitar tone/distortion. 39/Smooth is decent i guess. I really like a handful of tracks from it. Hard to dislike such innocent lyrics with warm basslines and shitty guitar distortion lol

All of this applies to me, apart from my love of Macy's Day Parade. Fight me.
