AlissaGoesRAWR
Late but 21st CB is overproduced, has some unwanted numbers like Christian's Inferno. I always have to skip that song. I mean, why is it even on the album? But it has its moments as well. Viva La Gloria, Static Age, American Eulogy (Mike is singing!!!) are some of the good songs. Trilogy, on the other hand, is shite. Uno, Dos and Tre combined have like a handful of good songs. I don't even remember the last time I had the urge to listen to one of the albums in the trilogy. But if you talk about Warning, Insomniac, Dookie, Nimrod, I always have the urge to give one of the albums a listen every day. Parts of the trilogy really aren't bad though. They were just recorded wrong, sadly. I listen to Demolicious a lot, actually. Stay the Night, Rusty James, Stray Heart, Missing You, Nuclear Family and Sex, Drugs & Violence, even 99 Revolutions, really are enjoyable. I wish a few others would've gotten the Demolicious treatment instead of Oh Love, Let Yourself Go, Angel Blue, Little Boy Named Train, Baby Eyes, Makeout Party, Ashley and Fell For You (that seems to be the only one that works better with the trilogy production, probably because it's so poppy!). I would've liked to hear Amanda, Lazy Bones, X-Kid, Kill the DJ, maybe even Fuck Time... recording it really killed Fuck Time.

I forgot to mention that, sorry The raw sound, the jamming vibe, its so great to listen to that once in a while. The hey-oh during the Rusty James intro gives me goosebumps! The bass intro of Baby eyes, they should have put it into the album. The acoustic Stay the night makes me cry!!!! xD

captain peroxide
This is basically my issue. American Idiot was just a stroke of dumb luck, in my opinion, and then they tried to replicate it. You just can't do what American Idiot did twice, ESPECIALLY if you're trying to do it intentionally. It just doesn't work that way. You can't plan something that epic just for the sake of being epic. Although Nimrod, the trilogy and 21CB suggest they're finding it difficult to trim the fat, both Stop, Drop and Roll and American Idiot were focused and consistent, which shows it is possible for them to still put out a short, punchy, solid record. I don't think it's coincidental that my favorite albums for them are the shorter ones. They're easy to get through quickly and appreciate as an entire package, because they aren't trying too hard. They're just great on their own. Stop being so perceptive! But yeah, I agree. I feel like 21CB was some weird attempt to be this sprawling epic, but it's very, very hard to write an album like that. I thought the character references just seemed contrived (Christian and Gloria, really?), unlike in AI, where it all seems natural. AI is a really cohesive piece of work, whereas 21CB doesn't really gel. I'd love Green Day's next album to just be a minimally-produced, 12 track punk record, but I realize that's what people have wanted for the last 11 years, so I'm not gonna hold my breath. At the end of the day, I love 'em, and I'll love whatever they put out, even if it's objectively not that great. Parts of the trilogy really aren't bad though. They were just recorded wrong, sadly. I feel like we agree on a lot of stuff X-Kid is probably my favorite song from the Trilogy, I would've loved to hear that on Demolicious. And yeah, some of the songs on there aren't my favorites, but it's still a lot better as a whole than the Trilogy was. Ugh, State of Shock still makes me angry. Such a lazy song.
AlissaGoesRAWR
all this talk about 21cb has just reminded me how much i absolutely love viva la gloria, i think it's really underrated. at this point i think it's the only green day song i'm absolutely dying to see live that i haven't yet but since they're apparently pretending that album doesn't exist nowadays i don't see that happening I wouldn't have minded seeing it live! Even though I'm not a huge 21CB fan, I think some of its songs would be cool to see live, Viva La Gloria included. My "songs I need to see live" list has really shrunk this month... Let's see... besides an album front-to-back, I guess I'm shooting for mostly super deep cuts now: 80, Going to Pasalacqua, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield, Whatsername, Welcome to Paradise, WMUWSE, Sassafras Roots, Westbound Sign, Nice Guys Finish Last, 21 Guns, Missing You... Yeah, most of those are never going to happen. Stop being so perceptive! But yeah, I agree. Libertine Angel
Ugh, State of Shock still makes me angry. Such a lazy song. I disagree, I think it's a general solid Green Day song (I'd easily take it over most of Dos).

They play the others fairly regularly. And yeah, I'm starting to think we're the same person. I disagree, I think it's a general solid Green Day song (I'd easily take it over most of Dos). Fair enough. I think the lyrics are bland and the music is completely uninspired. I also usually hate songs that start with the title of the song right away. I don't know why. It just seems lazy somehow.

I got to hear 4 of those songs (going to pasalacqua, welcome to paradise, sassfras roots and missing you) at the Emirates on the trilogy tour so it can happen heard 21 guns and wmuwse on the 21cb tour so I would also kill to hear the rest of the songs, especially westbound sign I wish they'd play brain stew/jaded and are we the waiting/st Jimmy live again. For some reason when I first got biab in my noob stage I really liked brain stew so it's one of my favs. Are we the waiting just reminds me of traveling to see them in Glasgow and the whole excitement of my first concert. AlissaGoesRAWR
State of Shock is just all-around terrible, partially because it's not finished, and partially because it's just a run-of-the-mill tune with uninspired, bland lyrics. I wouldn't write off some of those! I'd say out of those, the only real long shots are gonna be Whatsername, Sassafras Roots, Westbound Sign, and Nice Guys Finish Last. There are plenty of others I want but won't get either — Jinx/Haushinka, FOD, 86, She's a Rebel, Hitchin' a Ride... actually pretty much anything off of Nimrod/Warning... And they play Hitchin' all the time! I have my list, though. I'm supremely jealous you got to see Stuart & the Ave.

I literally slapped Brandon, screamed "RECORD IT!!!" and then thought "OMG I NEED TO SHOW MIKE MY SIGN!" Then when the song was over, I was like "oh, I don't even remember it happening." Billie's live solo was SO good in it, but I didn't realize it until after I watched the recording later on.

DannyDirnt
I think Kill the DJ was actually the song that needed the most a Demolicious version. I heard that bit of the demo in the ¡Quatro! documentary and fell completely in love with it! Also it sounded so good Live in the Echoplex. The songs themselves are really not bad, but the production was complete shit. I would have loved one only well-produced album with this tracklist: 1. Let Yourself Go 2. Kill the DJ 3. Stop When The Red Lights Flash 4. Lazy Bones 5. Fuck Time 6. Wild One 7. Stray Heart 8. Wow! That's Loud 9. X-Kid 10. Missing You 11. Dirty Rotten Bastards 12. Amanda 13. Brutal Love I think at very least all of those are solid tracks.
Spike
Funny, I like it therefore, being played at high speed. It does sound great a little bit faster, but the way they blast through it like they're Dragonforce totally kills the impact of the ending. Plus Billie's vocal timing is all over the place when they play it so fast. Maybe it's because I'm an over-analytical music snob but it totally took me out of the moment last time I saw them do it. Popular Post AlissaGoesRAWR
St. Jimmy at House of Blues is one of the few songs I distinctly remember without the assistance of a recording, simply because it blew me away. He was on fire, but in a good way, regardless if it was fast or not. You could tell he was incorporating some of the character from Broadway into his performance, and it was just so energetic. I was completely floored. And then he ended it with "And that's my name... And I'm in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" and the crowd just lost it, myself included.
