Spoopy Doo
I find loss of control so boring on the album but gotta say live at soundwave it was a lot of fun. I've taken a big liking to it recently; the chorus isn't great, but I really like the verses (i s2g that's like the trilogys thing).
Popular Post JOE THE X-KID
I thought i'd be positive and list what i think are some great lyrics from the trilogy: Stay The Night- "Well you're so sick and tired of feeling so alone, i don't understand the point if you have to go home. So wont you stay and count the circles round my eyes and we can count stars until the sun begins to rise" Kill The DJ- "Your thoughts are so unholy in the holiest of holes, onward Christian soldiers filled with jive and mind control" Loss Of Control- " Hanging out all by myself, atleast i make good company" "Im gonna hide in the shadows because ive really got nothing to say, we never had anything in common and i never liked you anyway" Lazy Bones- "I'm too tired to be bored i'm too bored to be tired and the silence is so deafening its like picking at a sore" Ashley- "You use to dangle my heart with your puppet strings, you dangled your desires right infront of my face, you led me to the well but wouldn't let me drink, swallowing my pride and i never even got the taste" Brutal Love- "Turn out the lights, close your eyes. Turn up the silence the heartache of your life, dance forever under the lights, this brutal love" X kid- You're not so young, but you're still dumb. And you're numb to your old glory but now its gone" 99 Revolutions- "A common cause and call to arms for the health of our daughters and our sons" There's more but im too tired to think right now.
Beerjeezus
DRB: Chop me a line of my best friend's ashes. Walk Away: something about a parachute or use a pair of shoes and walk away. I really like this wordplay.
AlissaGoesRAWR
It's easy to pick out one-liners, but when you view the lyrics as a complete package, they pale in comparison to an album like American Idiot, which was spot-on in terms of lyrical and recording quality. Even albums like Insomniac or Dookie, which were written almost 20 years prior, are much better.
Hermione
Well yeah, but American Idiot is a totally different album with lyrics telling an epic story. Uno Dos and Tre are more lighthearted and have a more varied mix of songs so good one liners are more what you'd expect. I really enjoy the snappy/humorous one liners on there, there's (understandably) less of them on American Idiot and 21st CB so nice to see them.

But my point is that the one-liners from any other album are probably even of better quality, and they're not even the best part of those albums. On the trilogy, it's a bunch of decent one-liners surrounded by fillers like "Let yourself go! Let yourself go!" and "99 revolutions tonight! 99 revolutions tonight!"

Chin for a Day
Why does anyone care about changing someones opinion on a song they like or dislike. It doesn't change your opinion. Or is everyone just bored.

Libertine Angel
Is it unpopular to greatly prefer the second half of ¡Uno! to the first half? I find Nuclear Family (the album version, anyway) rather boring, and it's one of the first instances of nonsensical Trilogy lyrics that I think of; the Trilogy's production does Stay the Night no justice; Carpe Diem is just boring; Let Yourself Go (depending on my mood) is also kind of boring; Kill the DJ is okay; Fell for You is okay. After Stay the Night I usually just skip to Loss of Control. I disagree (and I'm largely in the pro-Trilogy camp) - I like all of Uno, but I think all the songs you listed are the better ones off it (except Fell For You, I'm not such a fan of that one). Walk Away: something about a parachute or use a pair of shoes and walk away. I really like this wordplay. I'm afraid I have to completely disagree on that one, I've always thought that's one of the worst lines he's ever written.
Chin for a Day
If there wasn't debate about opinion this thread really wouldn't serve any sort of purpose. True, debating opinion makes the thread fun. But when debating when using only opinions is futile. A real debate is only won by using factual information. I think I just forgot what thread I was in. (except Fell For You, I'm not such a fan of that one). Now back to debating opinion. Fell for you is one of the most fun songs on the Trilogy. It is upbeat, nonsensical and fun. Part of its appeal is just the thought of sleepless Billie bored to tears and flying paper airplanes all night. I envision Adrienne waking up in the morning and finding 500 paper airplanes on her floor.

True, but for me it's a little too nonsensical - I still like it, but it's one of the weaker Trilogy songs, especially seeing as he's written about that kind of thing much better in the past. Rather unintentionally amusing in it's straightforwardness (or bluntness). And I like to think Billie meant it as a joke or a tongue-in-cheek intentionally simple pun.

I don't think he has written about paper airplanes before, but if you are referring to writing about insomnia, it is true. Brain Stew is a better song than Fell For You, but Fell For You makes me smile more.

The only part I don't like is the pissing the bed thing, that's fucking weird. But everything else about it is fun and good.

Guest
I agree, I try to ignore the piss the bed line, but the song is so damn fun. It was the first song on Uno I really got obsessed with aside from Nuclear Family. I probably played it 10 times in a row the first time I heard it. DookieLukie
I'm afraid I have to completely disagree on that one, I've always thought that's one of the worst lines he's ever written. Ah young knave, I voluptuously disagree with thou's assessment of said combination of musical notes. Walketh Awayeth hath be a abhorrent tune and said line makes not a lick of sensibility, but thou lineth that we speaketh of is quite clever and tickles my fancy and intellect.

Thinking about meanings is a part of the appeal for me. I like Fell For You though. It's not so nonsensical that you wouldn't know what is it about. Which is the case of some of the Trilogy. However, I'd live without the line "i woke up in the poll of sweat at first I thought I pissed the bed" Once I read a theory that FFY is in fact about booze.
