Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

Unpopular opinion: I don't like Ha Ha You're Dead much, it's probably in my bottom 10 Green Day songs. Sounds too much like a football chant :P. And when compared to At Your Funeral, a Pinhead Gunpowder song sung by Billie released around the same time that's also about celebrating a hated person's death, it comes off as not nearly as witty and enjoyable.

I agree & love your depth of explanation especially reference to billie joe Armstrong's delivery

Thanks! I had to re-ignite my thread, 4 days without a post?? I blame myself.

Desentisized and Suffocate are in my top ten.

Desensitized is close, Suffocate not as much for me, because it's lost at least some appeal upon more and more listenings. Songs that can survive over-play are the best ones.

Nicely put. I agree Desensitized is up there with their best, and I think You Lied is genius as well.

Ha Ha You´re dead - haven´t listened to it for a long while. Thanx for reminding me, it´s one of my favourites. :)

Appreciate it! When it comes to Opinions on Green Day, my takes are served one way: hot.

Nobody's going to know that reference, sigh, my references are always too obscure

It's definitely not as good to me as some people think it is. And I'd venture to say out of the four I noted it is a distant fourth, but it's still got that Green Day charm. AND it's a b-side so I give some leeway.

I'd forgotten how good Tired of Waiting for You is. Or just Shenanigans in general.

I don't think I have ever read a post where you don't like something - are you not well

The aspects of it I described make me like it less than most of their other songs but I'll still listen to it, it is catchy and slightly amusing and has great bass. So don't worry about me

I feel better. I thought I was in an alternate universe for a minute

I found this way too amusing. I knew you'd say that, you can't bring yourself to dislike anything they do

but it is endearing, of course

Well all their songs have some redeeming feature . Hmm....I was going to say I dislike everything about the American Idiot Musical album but I can't because I like that they tried something new and that it probably helped inspire such fabulous things as Brutal Love. But just in terms of the music I intensely dislike the American Idiot Musical album from start to finish, as well as all the (cringeworthy) times the band and cast performed songs on TV together, there :P

Interesting. Why do you dislike the cast album so much? I will admit there are sections where I think the only person that should be singing this is billie, but I don't know if I would call the cast album cringe worthy.

I just really dislike that "musical" style of singing/songs, I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it as far as that genre goes but to me it just sounds really melodramatic and cheesy so it's not a genre that's for me.

I know what you mean, because I feel the same. I like some musicals such as Westside Story or Cats. But GD songs as musical... no way! Just what you say: melodramatic, cheesy, and watered down.

And by the way: I like Espionage.

Ok so you are just not a fan of musical theater. I don't enjoy your standard type of musical theater either. It tends to be formulatic, trite and boring. But I do enjoy seeing a different approach to it, such as American idiot. Or shows like Jesus christ superstar and hedwig. I agree that I don't enjoy listening to the cast album but hopefully I will enjoy the show when I go in June

I weep every time I listen to the cast album, and not because I think it's bad, either. The musical was honestly such an experience in its own right, and the album takes me back to it.

That said, Ha Ha You're Dead is amazing, the repetitiveness is part of the charm. When you're that mad at someone, the only thing really left to do is to holler infantile insults over and over.

ZJ hit the nail on the head with his description for Shenanigans. So many tracks on the album are incredibly underrated but some of their best work. Desensitized and Suffocate are indeed awesome. I also really love Scumbag! I think the lyrics are well-written; I especially love the lines "scumbag on a mission, scumbag with permission," etc. The album art is one of my favorites of theirs too. I actually printed it out on a shirt. :D

:shok: Best song on Shenanigans for me.

I know it is just a more modern version of the Peter Gunn theme, but I love Espionage. Another plus for Shenanigans

Whenever Shenanigans comes up I generally say it's hugely underrated, but there's enough love for it in the last page or so that I don't think I need to. It is a fantastic album.

I've never even listened to Shenanigans all the way through. The good songs on it are really fucking awesome though. For Desensitized and Ha Ha You're Dead to be b-sides is just mind blowing.

Shenanigans is actually better than most of their studio albums for me.

I will say that I always thought the flow was pretty shit, especially from the middle to the end of the album.

Two unpopular opinions:
1) Warning is their most underrated album
2) I don't like their use of the word "retarded" in JoS and Dirty Rotten Bastards

Also...hello, everyone! :)

Gd biggest mistake with the trilogy is producing an album that wasn't suppose to be analysed & taken seriously - thinking that's what this generation was about - all along not realising that's exactly what this generation wants & expects gd to produce.

Hi :3

I normally dont like retarded being used but them using it the way they did ("Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?" and "We're the retarded and the broken hearted") doesnt really bug me since he is calling himself one and its not used as an insult to someone or anything like that. Kind of like how I hate the word faggot being used but dont mind it in stuff like AI or Holiday because in AI, he's claling himself one and in Holiday its used sarcastically/as a quote.
