there of which I stand alone

Some of the best verse lyrics Billie's written.

Except that line. From a grammar standpoint, that's always annoyed me :P

It's 'thereof' as one word, which makes sense, I believe.

Also 'you are your own sight' rather than 'you're on your own side'

I get to state an opinion on Green Day that everyone may disagree with, huh?

Ok, my opinion is that it seems after Billie Joe was on broadway, he became a bit of a softy. Getting parts in films and such, while this isn't a bad thing, just him broadening his artistic horizons, it seemed to make him softer, and less prone to calling out at political actions like the former 2004 Billie did. This is just my opinion, so no reason to get your ass in a knot. I still look up to him and the band regardless of what they do. They could go on tour with Justin Bieber and write songs for Barney, and I'd still listen to them.

ass in a knot

This is both the worst and greatest visual ever.

Yeah but it's actually "thereof" which is perfectly fine.

You might be right, but if so, then I like this softy version of him better. He's less predictable and hopefully more likely to stop trying to repeat himself and come up with something new, unexpecable and more musically complex.

I'm not sure - the Trilogy was the kind of back-to-their-roots thing Cigs & Valentines was intended to be, so we'll have to wait and see what they do next.

I've always seen him as a softy. I've always thought that tough, rebel image was just for show. He seems like a really sweet guy so I guess I never really bought it.

You forgot jumping in the crowd to beat the shit out of someone.

^ That was epic, if he's jumping into the crowd -where he may or may not return from- to save a fan being picked on or abused, he's a badass softy.

I don't even remember how I came across this thread, and I never really participate in this forum (though I've follow the website for some time). I'm not quite sure what you guys consider an "unpopular" opinion on Green Day, since I've read lots of things here that make me feel like an alien.

(note: after writing everything that came to mind, I realized all of my opinion are post-American Idiot, so I guess I have nothing against old-school Green Day).

- I think American Idiot is Green Day's best album. Best than any of what they did before. I believe it has more feeling, it's better written and conveys bigger messages than any other album they recorded before.

- Contrary to all of those who hate on She's a Rebel and Extraordinary Girl, I think those songs really balance American Idiot out. Especially Extraordinary Girl.

- I consider Whatsername to be the most beautiful and sadder song they've made.

- I have special feelings for 21st Century Breakdown... I first listened to then when American Idiot came out, then they toured the world, didn't come to my country and disappeared for years... 21st Century Breakdown not only brought them back to the music scene, it brought them to my country (and made me meet them!). I like the album a lot, but I think it wouldn't make a difference if everyone suddenly forgot about it.

- Even though I don't love the Trilogy 5ever, I don't think I dislike it half of what I've seen most of the people here do. I think those were merely fun albums, not meant to be taken seriously, but actually had a couple of songs that were quite good.

- ¡Dos! was my favorite album from the Trilogy hands down, and I think it had the best songs Green Day could have ever came up with in order to leave behind their punk-rock opera ear (not that I really wanted them to...)

- I don't like ¡Tre!. I love X-Kid and Dirty Rotten Bastards, but I would give them up if that would erase ¡Tre! from existance.

It says "there of" in the album booklet. I wouldn't count on Billie having meant it the correct way :P

Doesn't have to be one or the other. In "In China With Green Day" Aaron Cometbus describes Billie as alternating between "dotingly sweet and stormily sullen", having been that way since he was a teenager. I think that sounds pretty accurate.

And there was that story he told on stage on the 21st CB tour that he was outside a bar arguing with his wife over the phone and someone in traffic shouted shit at him from their car so he put the phone down, jumped through the car window and started punching them, and then afterwards when he went back to his phone he realized she was still on the line the whole time and they made up by just saying "I love you" to each other. Which also supports that description . Seems like there's both of those sides to his character.

Basically, the lyric should be changed to 'there from which I stand apart" which makes (a bit more) grammatical sense and fits the tune  I'm just gonna pretend it's that anyway :P

Either way it doesn't stop the song being awesome

I have CD booklets with incorrect lyrics in them, so it could be the same issue there.

Yeah that's true, there are more sides to everyone. I forgot about that story. That's epic!
