Popular Post Z J
What do so many people see in "Walking Alone"? I've seen quite a few reviews mark it as an "honorable mention" or one of the best tracks on the album. Seriously, I feel like there's something I'm missing here. For me it's Billie's vocal and the harmonica.
UNICORN VOMIT
AI was much more popular than 21CB. Most people would know JOS over anything on 21CB. I was more meaning your use of last - like did you forget 21cb came before the trilogy.
Hermione
For me it's Billie's vocal and the harmonica. I also really love the lyrics, especially "Sometimes I should just keep my mouth shut, or only say hello". I haven't seen it get much love myself but if it has then I'm glad!
Chin for a Day
I love Walking Alone. I agree with Hermione and ZJ but the song is also very soothing. It flows very well and is easy to listen too. As far as JoS vs 21 Guns, just talk to any non-GD fan or casual fan, most of them know 21 Guns over JoS. Like it or not, 21 guns is a very powerful song it sticks in peoples heads. JoS is brilliant and far better, but as far as what a non fan would remember on the radio, I think 21 guns sticks out more.
Jax Teller
I agree bad choice - I hated it as a single but I love 21CB - to me it is every bit as good as AI - come at me now. You're right. 21st CB is as good as AI. Definitely one of their best albums. Very much with you there! It was a waste of a potentially great single. I blame the AI musical I blame Andres.
Haushinka!
Like others have said, I love Walking Alone because of the melody and lyrics. It has one of my favorite lines: "Come together like a foot in a shoe, only this time I think I stuck my foot in my mouth." I also agree that it has a soothing quality to it. However, I can understand why some people think it's nothing special. That's how I feel about Redundant.
Libertine Angel
Walking Alone is good, but still towards the bottom of Nimrod for me. Redundant used to be in the lower middle of Nimrod, but actually reading the lyrics has pushed it up.
Chin for a Day
I actually like both Redundant and Walking Alone, but nothing can top Scattered. Actually, the only song I don't like on Nimrod is Platypus
Libertine Angel
I like Platypus, it's just a fun explosion of rage. The only song I don't like off Nimrod is Take Back, though I can't decide on a favourite. Honourable mentions to Uptight, All The Time, Scattered and Nice Guys Finish Last.

Actually, the only song I don't like on Nimrod is Platypus Scattered and Redundant are easily two of their best songs, and undoubtedly the top two on Nimrod. Walking Alone is nothing special musically, but I love the lyrics and Billie's voice is really nice.

Wasn't it about the guy at 924 that convinced people to hate them? I seem to recall something along those lines.

Haushinka!
Platypus is badass! Kinda reminds me of Jaded. The faster and angrier a track sounds, the better, in my opinion.

GlennRobinson
- The trilogy is far more superior than 21st Century Breakdown. - 21CB is a tough listen, too serious and bloated. - Love American Idiot and agree with their politics but some of the lyrics are cringey - Their appearance/image from the American Idiot era is embarrassing. - EDIT: Some of Bullet in a Bible is the band jerking themselves off for an hour. Great concert but a bit arrogant at times. - Cigarettes and Valentines and Money Money 2020 have NOTHING to do with each other. - The song "Cigarettes and Valentines" was never actually a song. I'm guessing it was written quickly on the 21CB tour. - Stop Drop and Roll was the album they really wanted to make instead of 21CB. Z J
I love Walking Alone. I agree with Hermione and ZJ but the song is also very soothing. It flows very well and is easy to listen too. Exactly how I feel, actually. It is easy listening. Laid back, mid-tempo, smooth vocals.
Popular Post DoodleBob
I know I'm late to the party, but in regards to the whole rhyming "time" with "time" thing in Whatsername: It used to bug me as well until I derived an explanation that revolves around the assumption that Billie Joe did it on purpose. And since then I've actually thought it was kinda cool. We see throughout the whole narrative that Jesus of Suburbia is a pretty static character. He goes to the city in the hopes of something great, but he manages to fuck everything up anyways. He attempted to get away from his broken home, but all he did was create another one. This of course results in him returning home with nothing really but a few memories. Character-wise, nothing really changed. So with Billie Joe rhyming "time" with "time", it symbolically displays that. Ending the last 2 verses on the same word shows that throughout Jesus of Suburbia's journey he never took the final step to reinvent himself. He stays the same, just like the word. Also, it's important that "time" is the word that is rhymed with itself. Like what? A year went by and did he really learn anything? "Time" hasn't changed for him. Jesus of Suburbia's character says the same: just like the final rhyme. Of course, it's very far fetched and Billie Joe probably didn't give it that much thought. He probably just got tired of thinking of words that rhyme with "time". But hey, it's fun to think about. It certainly makes the mediocre rhyme that ends one of the best albums a bit more bearable.
