DookieLukie
As if that was ever in doubt Actually, I constantly second guess my intelligence. It's very irritating. But nice attempt at psychoanalysing me. At least no matter how dumb I am, I'll always know that I'm smarter than you Creepy you know my name. Take it down though. colour_me_stupid_
Cumdog omfg Carry on. I've nothing to contribute. I'd struggle to hum the basic tune of most of the songs being discussed right now.

WhiteTim
Pretty sure it doesn't even answer my question and just blatantly states that you think I'm musically illiterate. Thanks. Ceadawg isn't a fan of the trilogy but has talked good about their other albums

They were only my favourite band for the best part of a decade. so very sorry Very un-#outlaw of you. Very disappointing.

Popular Post Hermione
I don't see it as having a lack of interpretation. I'm TOTALLY fine with the "Jesus" part. And now I can see how "venus" would SORT OF make sense... Sort of like "What the fuck's she doing?" But why VENUS? Why not think of some other word that rhymes with "Jesus"? Even if they couldn't, it's totally possible to just cut "Jesus" from the song and put something else in. But hey, they didn't. And, the "Kool-Aid" thing. What if someone didn't know about the whole "Drinking the Kool-Aid" story? I sure didn't, and I'm sure a lot of other people didn't. Oh, and "the Kool-Aid fraud" is the best way you could've worded that. And this song is 4 minutes. When I was halfway through it I thought it was going to end around there. I just it lasts WAY too long. Venus is a place that's literally "out of this world", different and strange. It's also considered to represent female qualities and female sexuality. So it's a pretty appropriate word to represent her wild lifestyle (as opposed to the conventional lifestyle represented by "Jesus"). If someone doesn't know about the Kool Aid thing too bad , there's always going to be someone who doesn't get any reference, hopefully the more different references people hear the more they'll learn. You are so wrong on this one. I am at the same stage of family life as Billie and this song hits home so much. Billie has always written about things that mean something to him. Most of the time, they can transcend generations. This is a song that you are not going to get unless you are in the same stage as he is. I get it, I get it alot. Something that may be senseless to you, may really mean alot to someone else because they get where the lyricist is coming from. Everyone sees things differently, no interpretation is ever fact its always someones opinion. There's also the fact that it's a parody of old 60s songs that were totally about sex but would only hint at it and never say so explicitly, in this song it's flipped around to be completely explicit. I think whether you can relate to that more real side of it or not the humour of that catchy old fashioned rhythm paired with such explicit lyrics can still be appreciated (is by me anyway ). Yeah, people just think I hate Green Day because I think Billie Joe is a tosser and that the Trilogy is shite. They were only my favourite band for the best part of a decade. Or possibly because you've mentioned those two things a million or so times.

Considering this is a Green Day fan forum that would be slightly sillier though
Certified Nimrod
Since we were talking about lyrics in the trilogy, My absolute least favorite line in DRB is "What the fuck does ok stand for" Its the most out of place line in the whole damn thing I line that line, but not in that song. It doesn't make sense there. I'd be fine with it in a different song, though. I've never heard you say a good thing about Green Day, and it makes me wonder sometimes what is the actual reason for you to be on these boards. Even I know Ceadog likes a lot of Green Day's work. I hate it when Green Day plays Minority live. Why? I think it's fun.

Z J
The painfully obvious reason the trilogy gets talked about so much is because it is their most recent work and contains 37 songs. That's why it comes up the most and that's why Ceadog and others (me included) have stated their disdain for different aspects of it numerous times. There's nothing else to it. Also you can't always hide behind "subjectivity" when discussing music. You can't view chord progressions/notes in a subjective way.
DookieLukie
the only reason he says so many bad things about them is to wind you all up and y'all fall for it every time That's exactly what my mom said about my 5 year old cousin after he visited. Accurate comparison.
