Mayonaise
Why do so many people like "Wild One" and say it's one the best in the trilogy? Come on, just look at this: "She gave up on Jesus for living on Venus" "I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, I jumped on the grenade" Lyrics are a HUGE problem with Dos. Not just Dos where it's the most prevalent, but the entire damn trilogy. Maybe a LITTLE less on Tré, but even Tré has lyric problems.

Sauli
I've never seen someone say that. But... the rhyming dictionary said that Kool-Aid and grenade rhyme. It can't be that bad
Mayonaise
I've never seen someone say that. I don't know, I've seen it high on a few peoples' list. Not "so many" I guess. I mean, I guess I can see why. From what I remember, the instrumentation isn't TOO bad. Wasn't there a decent solo in there as well? I don't know, I don't think I'd put it up there with my least favorite GD songs like "Nightlife", "21 Guns", or "Troublemaker", but I just don't think it's a very good song. Seriously, why would you rhyme "Jesus" with "Venus"?!

I think the solo is the only redeeming factor. The song just drones on and on. Seriously, why would you rhyme "Jesus" with "Venus"?! Because drugs. Mayonaise
I hope solos isn't your reason for disliking Troublemaker, that's the reason I like tolerate it. Of course not. Weezer's album Raditude has plenty of solos, but who actually likes that album? I find "Troublemaker" to be extremely boring. I just cannot stand its chorus. I really do think it has one of the worst Green Day choruses.

Mayonaise
Are KYE and Christian's Inferno on the shitty chorus list as well? Of course. Same with LOTAG and Kill the DJ. Basically, any chorus with "WOOOOOOOOOOH" or "OHHHHHHH OHHHHHHHH" in it just makes me think they forgot to write a proper chorus or something. Not Green Day, but Weezer's "Perfect Situation" is a perfect (get it?) example of this.
Hermione
The choruses are a bit different. The part "some call it nice". And the whole thing is sung really differently (even though it's the same basic tune), sounds way rougher/rawer. And the instrumental bit has cool spooky noises in it. Why do so many people like "Wild One" and say it's one the best in the trilogy? Simple and playful but still holding meaning.

But I feel that with most songs on the trilogy in terms of lyrics they weren't really trying. Instrumentation was decent on all three at best IMO. I notice that in some songs the lyrics are awful, like "Makeout Party", but the instrumentation is great. It has some of Mike Dirnt's best bass work IMO. But in some songs the everything is just put together perfectly, especially "Lazy Bones". I find Dos to be the best of the trilogy. (And for me that's not saying much) The lyrics are some of my favorite Green Day has ever done, and I go as far as to say it's not of only the best of the trilogy, but one of the best Green Day songs of all time. I always recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard the album. Seriously, if anyone hasn't heard Dos, and this goes out to EVERYONE, if there's one song you can take from it, it's "Lazy Bones".

Z J
Agreed! I don't think so though, people weren't as silly about things like that in those days. It was also pre-Columbine, so perhaps not as touchy a subject
Mayonaise
Every post you write is right. thx bby No, but seriously, thanks. I wanna talk about Tre for a second. Let me just say, it's a lot better than Uno. However, when this album is good, it's really good. When this album is bad, it's really damn bad or minor shit like chorus lyrics or just lyrics in general that take away from the song. "Missing You", for example. "I searched the room, I lost my head, I even looked under the bed" or something like that? It's not necessarily a bad chorus or anything. It doesn't have a problem like LOTAG where it just builds up to this "WOOOOOH" or anything. But I feel like I'm just being read a storybook or something. Maybe that's just me, I don't know. Everything else in the song seems to be fine, though. But when this album is REALLY BAD, it's songs like "Walk Away". The lyrics are surprisingly not that bad. But it has the same problem I have with "Know Your Enemy". Once you've heard the chorus, you've just heard the entire damn song. Seriously, this song is SO repetitive. Now, there's nothing wrong with repetition. Green Day did it perfectly with "Going to Pasalacqua". So what's wrong here? Honestly, I don't know. But this is also where personal taste comes in. Because that's what music is really about, right? Personal taste. Maybe it's the sense of emotion GTP provides? Maybe that I can slightly relate to it? Maybe it's because I think Billie Joe's voice has more of a melody on GTP than "Walk Away"? I really don't know. But of course, what's great about this album? Why, "Brutal Love" of course! Now, one might say the lyrics in this song don't make a whole lot of sense. But the lyrics totaly have to do with the message of this song? In my opinion, this song is about a struggling relationship and about how love can be just... Well, brutal. It's about how much your relationship struggles, you'll still have to try and stick to it. And here's also an example of very good repetition. This song might the most powerful ballad Green Day has ever done. It's no "Macy's Day Parade" or "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)", but it's just a great powerful song. Oh, and "Amanda" kicks ass. I could probably do this for every song on the album, but I don't wanna. Edited January 2, 2015 by Soviet Idiot

DookieLukie
I've argued in my blog that "Wild One" had a lot of great song potential that was spoiled by poor lyrics. A lot of the lyrics set up for cool metaphors and wording punches but fall flat on their face. "My heart is a chaser" is a great line, but it's followed by "she's strung out on razors now" which makes no sense. Ok, your heart is a chaser how? Should have been "My heart is a chaser, she's rinsing her mouth out now" or something to do with chasers and alcohol. The solo in Wild One is amazing, but the rest of the song falls flat around it. Needed more work.
Guest
Green Day fans often mistake faux epic or obnoxious solo instrumentation for high quality instrumentation. For example, Stuck With Me, Stuart & The Ave. and half the songs on Insomniac piss all over Mike's bass work on Dirty Rotten Bastards, yet fans eat that shit up because "ZOMG HE PLAYED FAST". Same goes for Tré. Everyone knows the solo from JOS (and it's good, but not mindblowing), but absolutely no one rates songs like Reject or Haushinka that put more highly rated drummers to shame. Or maybe it's a good thing that Green Day have the quality to cater to both types of fan. Even if the musically illiterate ones are annoying as fuck.
