the lyrics and the entire setup of the static age in my opinion is pure genius

Oh and the key change towards the end is the best part of the song.

absolutely, the solo leading up to the key change, the saxophone solo when it's played live, it's fantastic. Can't wait to release my cover of it with hammie and Harry from GDC

Funny, to me Billie's accent is very different from the northern accent(s). But then again, what do I know. Tom's accent is my current favourite in the whole world though. Must check out Lili's too :woot:

Funny, because it's my least favourite :P Lil's is far better than mine because she doesn't sound like an utter monghead.

Nah, we gotta meet someday somewhere just because I wanna hear you speak live  But maybe mine is an unpopular opinion?

In all honesty though people rarely dig their own accents anyway (at least I don't, no matter what language.)

I love that. Especially because I always used to wish there was a key change at the end of Church On Sunday (mostly because it'd be funny ). Just had to wait a few years and they made a song that has a chorus with a very similar melody to Church On Sunday's chorus with a key change at the end! Next best thing. And even better live with the sax solo.

Yeah it is really, any of his singing that sounds a bit English sounds like a London/Cockney accent (which is a southern accent). The similarity it has with a northern accent is that it's often hard to tell what he's saying :P

We have discussed this before but because accents are like the best thing ever and different accents really fascinate me, I'll restate my opinion :P

He doesn't even sound that much British in fact. He just pronounces certain words lazily which is also common in Cockney. He for example often drops H's. On the other hand, it is kinda useless to try to analyse his accent since it is sometimes pretty incomprehensible anyway. ( Northern accents, in fact, are not at all incomprehensible :P)

But I have never even thought that he sounds particularly British. His singing accent is strongly rhotic, for instance. But maybe it is more about the feeling

It is interesting though how his accent changes when he speaks normally.

Yeah, as we've discussed his singing doesn't really sound very English but there are some slightly English sounding elements in parts of his singing sometimes. I think it's more the influence of listening to English/London punk bands and just the fact that punk style singing in general is influenced by those bands than it being a common lazy way of pronouncing words in any accent, but it's probably a bit of both.

You doubt me  ?

Yes

It's quite a weird situation with Billie given how many British singers sound American due to their technique.

Northern accents are less comprehensible to people from southern England since we're so used to hearing English spoken properly ;)

Yer reight leet, ye know. At first you complain how you sound like a monghead and nobody understands you and then when someone tells you that you are being understood you get angry like your whole personality depended upon the amount of confusion your speech causes

yeah mine's way better :P tom has a south yorkshire accent, mine's more north yorkshire mixed with teesside. we sound a little less inbred, in my humble opinion.

to be on topic, i'd never say billie sang with a northern accent before (hermione's right in that he tries to be all cockney) but tom's band's vocalist just didn't sound different. i wonder if it's like confirmation bias, or if billie just sounds sort of generally english.

Yeah I agree there's not much difference, was expecting there to be more. I think it's the sort of generally English thing, helped by the vocals in that song being some of the most English sounding vocals he's done.

Yet I still have to admit that your voice is glorious!

Likewise :P

It's West Yorkshire you fucking heathen!

Laura isn't even real Yorkshire though, she's from Chesterfield so that just confuses the issue even more.

Your accent is surely awesome. Just absolutely magnificent  The combination of your glorious names and your right brillian accent is unbeatable

I still refuse to acknowledge its incomprehensibleness though.

Noooo you can't say that, I don't want to be associated with THOSE inbreds. So are you saying North Yorkshire is the, er, One True Voice?

Yeah it's utterly baffling

Here's the aforementioned BOBD cover (again, pardon the mixing, it was a dark time...) so see what you make of that accent wise.

I have said that before, but regardless of her accent her voice is awesome.
