Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

Goat Island? I see you haven't ventured very far into the downloads section . I love the brightness and the atmosphere of Goat Island, the venue is one of a kind.

And that one was from 1998. He probably remembers less and less every year. If you asked him right now to play it, he'd probably say "Stuart and the Ave? Who's that by?"

It actually isn't even in the Downloads section; file was deleted. I had to PM you asking you to send it to me directly.

And poor Mike remembers the whole thing and never gets to play his awesome bassline.

Here's one for everybody: I think Stuart and the Ave is one of Green Day's best songs. It always seems to slip through the cracks in terms of recognition but I think it's fantastic. The lyrics are clever and the song does a really good job of conveying the rage and anger that Insomniac is known for.

Agreed, best song on Insomniac. I'd kill to see it live once.

I'm pretty convinced that if Billie went down, I could adequately fill in as front man. Got that catalog mastered front to back. But honestly, so much brain space ultimately wasted.

AAF CD is superior to BIAB, but BIAB is a much better DVD.

Another good thing about the Trilogy is that, after being sick of rock operas, it quenched my taste for "back to basics" music and made me actually want a more serious maybe concept record.

His weight loss and the whole band's re-branding had A LOT to do with the success of AI.

Of course, but it has nothing to do with the quality of music since Warning is a better album :P

But yes, that re-branding was necessary to keep them in the spotlight. But when it comes to his weight I still fail to understand what whas tye problem in the first place since he was never really fat, no, I fail to consider something as unimportant as his weight to be that important.

The pre-branding itself was important and necessary, they truly changed their style just when it was needed, but the whole weight thing was only drop in the ocean. I fail to believe it could matter that much really. But maybe the world is more shallow than I'd like to believe.

I think the weight was simply apart of it. They looked old and uninspired. When AI came around they were a completely different band in the eyes of the public. The weight loss, eye liner, hair dye, black wardrobe, and stage presence were all equally apart of the rebirth of GD. Of course that has nothing to do with the quality of the music, but I can guarantee that the public IS that shallow

I've never thought that Mike and Tre looked at all bad during the Warning era, though.

Yeah it was essentially Billie that looked bad, I only really say the whole band because they changed their look as well. And being the frontman, his appearance is always going to be more heavily scrutinized.

Now that I think of it, Billie's singing was vastly improved as well from Warning tour to AI.

The more i listen to demolicious the more i think songs from the trilogy could have been made into the 4th or 5th best green day album ever if they got the sound and production right. Maybe that's not so unpopular because several people think demolicious compares well with insomniac, kerplunk, and nimrod as a demo.

Yes, Awesome As Fuck is one of the most stupid album names ever. Its immature, unfunny, and it tries to give an impression of not giving a f**ck (I despise that idiom but this situation calls for it) but does it in the cheapest way possible.

If you can't find any other ways to tell us that you don't give a damn, that you are unconventional , than naming your album after a vulgqr name of womans genitals, don't do it for Christ's sake.

Especially when tons of kids have shirts with that text written on them and it just feels weird to see a ten year old with a shirt like that. Besides, swearing loses it weight if used that carelessly.

Or maybe I'm just old-fashioned

How is AAF named after women's genitals?

Also, swearing lost it's weight a long time ago. Fuck is used as an adjective and filler word now. I know a lot of people who constantly say it while talking. "So I was fuckin' takin this fuckin' couch to the fuckin' store to return it cuz fuckin' I didn't fuckin'..."

Nightlife should've been with iceJJfish instead of lady cobra

Or any rapper that has skill or at least clout

Green Day names an album in tribute to an idea fans came up with on GDC and people aren't happy about it now?! What is the world coming to?

Like really, at one show some fans held up signs that said "thank you" during Good Riddance, and someone here posted that at the next show people should hold up signs that said "awesome as fuck" instead, and a plan was formed. People did it (I think Abby and Beth made them and they and a whole bunch of people in the pit held them up), and the band was so pleased they tweeted about it....and then named the album from the tour after it! I don't know how it could be more appropriate, their shows are all about having fun and not taking themselves too seriously, and involving the fans in the crowd and not putting themselves above them. The title of the album flawlessly encapsulates that while referring to an incident that happened during the tour it was recorded on. It's perfect!

As well as what I posted above about the reason for the title, I don't think the phrase itself is meant to be about not giving a fuck or to be shocking at all, it's just a way of saying the tour was "really awesome" (meant in a totally tongue in cheek way).

I saw a post on tumblr saying international superhits was "underrated". I'm sorry but how is an album of singles underrated? like they're the best of the bunch of each album, so technically not that underrated or they wouldn't have been chosen as singles :P

I've been on a kerplunk fix lately, no idea why. My favourite song from that album is def one for the razorbacks or android.

it's kinda like when people say "they never toured Shenanigans!" Urm are you stupid haha

I'm not afraid to admit I'm that shallow. I mean, LOOK at AI era Billie, jfc.

I agree with that. The BIAB DVD is massively superior but the AAF CD is way better, and given that I listen to audio more than I watch videos I have to say AAF is better.

Although AAF has a better setlist, I feel like the sound quality on the CD is shit, so I find myself enjoying BIAB more by default.

Um, what? Does not compute. I'm pretty sure "fuck" is gender-neutral...

Umm well sorry  It was a simple case of being tired after a chaotic morning + not thinking clearly and posting in a hurry (which I should never do since my dyslexia tends to mess every senrtence up if I am not careful enough.)

. See, the word we translate the word "fuck" to means also womans genitals in Finnish, in addition to that meaning "to have sex" or yes, "to be good/great/amazing (as an adjective). Nevermind that :P My bad.

as for my point, it stands still, I still consider it to be a pretty dull name :P

Yeah, it's very crackly and just isn't mastered as well overall.

Even though it originated on GDC? Thinking it's a bit immature I can accept but it's not dull with that back story :P

But to the standard listener who knows nothing of GDC it's pretty fucking (ha, see what I did there) lame.

Personally I am annoyed by that name  but everyone on their own I guess :P

The backstory truly is kinda cool, though.

It's cool that they basically allowed their fans to name it (well not exactly, but you know what I mean), but it's still a crap name.

And BIAB is miles better, anyway :P

I would agree with you except that the tracklist isn't as good plus there are one too many mistakes. It was smart to record more shows for AAF so they wouldn't have to use a song that they screwed up
