DookieLukie Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I don't see what's wrong with letting the conversation develop organically. This thread has always been really fun and one of my personal favorites because it's a place where I can argue about Green Day and hear some really interesting opinions, but it's also a place where we have full-blown conversations and it's not interrupted by a lot of "Get back on topic." It was bound to spend more time going down rabbit-holes than sticking to the topic anyway, there's only so many times I can say I like "Nightlife" or DookieLukie can say American Idiot is shite Woah woah wtf...when have I ever said AI is shit? Wtf? Woah Quote
DookieLukie Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I just decided to pick a random, outrageous example to represent all the random, outrageous shit you say in here That's a bit too outrageous. Even I wouldn't go that far. Quote
Z J Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 So I'm not the only one who feels like this thread gets treated more like an "everything ever to do with Green Day" thread? I'd call it more "pretty much anything to do with Green Day followed by actual discussion" Haha although most discussions begin with an opinion of some sort so it is really the only place on the forum to discuss this stuff. Obviously I'm slightly biased though as I didn't know there was even a site beyond this thread until like a month ago Quote

JOE THE X-KID Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 sorry. Well ok I'd prefer to listen to it over Nightlife Quote
mulder Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Again, I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I do think Insomniac is a better album than Dookie. 1 Quote
Spike Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Nightlife is better than Christians inferno Agreed. Nightlife is actually pretty good, but Christian's Inferno throws a spanner in the works of Breakdown. Not a fan at all. 1 Quote

Again, I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I do think Insomniac is a better album than Dookie. Much. "Sassafrass Roots" and "Pulling Teeth" could easily have been cut from Dookie, but apart from "Tightwad Hill" there isn't a single track on Insomniac that's expendable. And the production on Insomniac is better, too; it's less dry-sounding and Mike's bass is pure sex. 1 Quote

Anaïs. Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Y u do dis? The melody is far from Billie's finest and the lyrics are annoyingly repetitious. (Yes, so is the chorus for Christian's Inferno and I'm being a hypocrite, fuck off. ) And I just can't be wowed by the bassline despite your praise for it. Quote

I'd go so far as to say that Sassafras Roots is the second best song on Dookie, behind When I Come Around. Yeah, I went there. Hypocrite-bass-philistine-asshole. Also, ever since I heard "Whoa, Christian's infertile" I can never listen to that song the same again. 5 Quote

Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Also, ever since I heard "Whoa, Christian's infertile" I can never listen to that song the same again. I would have sarcastically thanked you for ruining the song for me with that comment. Then I realized I never really liked the song to begin with. though to say that Nightlife is better than Christian's Inferno is a bold statement to make. Cannot emphasize enough what a trainwreck of a song that is... (since this thread I don't know what opinions are actually unpopular anymore ). Quote

To say Christian's Inferno is better than anything except Wild One is just objectively incorrect, though. I can get past "Big shits in fairyworld" just fine, what's your problem? Why would you want to get past that?! Quote

That Dude Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Not even Tight Wad Hill is expendable IMO With Insomniac, there are some songs for me that are expendable. Here's are some examples: "Panic Song", "Westbound Sign" and "Tightwad Hill". Probably some of my least favorite Green Day songs ever. Quote

Probably some of my least favorite Green Day songs ever. Why is Panic Song expendable? It's unique amongst the Green Day back catalogue, features some of their best lyrics, and the release of tension when the verse finally comes in is explosive. 4 Quote
Pat1308 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I'd go so far as to say that Sassafras Roots is the second best song on Dookie, behind When I Come Around. Yeah, I went there. Sassafras Roots is nice, but it just reminded me too much of PG's Life During Wartime - which I like better. Hypocrite-bass-philistine-asshole. Also, ever since I heard "Whoa, Christian's infertile" I can never listen to that song the same again. To be fair, I did feel Christian was a bitchy dick. Speaking of which, two of the songs I like from Dookie and Insomniac are Chump and Panic Song. Yeah. Quote
Spike Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 Sassafras Roots is nice, but it just reminded me too much of PG's Life During Wartime - which I like better. But Sassafras Roots came out three years earlier, so it's the law to like it more. To be fair, I did feel Christian was a bitchy dick. Let's face it, if Christian was real he'd be a total asshole. Jollyroger118 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 sassafras roots could have easily been cut from dookie? westbound sign is expendable? what the fuck is wrong with u people Right? I wouldn't call any songs off those albums "expendable". Westbound Sign is great I love the riff and the lyrics and it gives a special view on Adrienne. And to the guy who said Christians Inferno is worse than anything but Wild One...have you heard the rest of the trilogy?? Wild Ones actually one of my favorites from it, mostly for the music. And I like Christians Inferno, I love the totally bitter lyrics and my favorite "I am the atom bomb, I am your chosen one, toxin your reservoir and then return...MAN TO APE!" How could you not like it? Quote
