Popular Post That Dude
I know She's a Rebel is probably the most-hated song on American Idiot, but I like it and it fits the story. If you think about it, it's the only happy moment throughout the whole story. Jesus/St. Jimmy is happy for a brief time, while he and Whatshername first get together. In the the next song, he feels like dying, she is sick of crying - things start going bad. So I think, while it's not the greatest song in world, it serves the story well, and gives the characters at least a bit of hope in the midst of pain and heartbreak. On an interesting note, the song is also sort of about the statue of liberty.

Its simpleness has a purpose (unlike a lot of the more basic trilogy songs) and helps convey how the character is feeling.
Popular Post Z J
That's what makes AI so special, even its weakest songs serve a purpose for the narrative. Not only does AI have fantastic individual songs it has a strong and coherent theme/story which makes it an even more fantastic album.

Hermione
So since this is an opinions thread, what do you guys think the best show Green Day has ever played? It can be in terms of setlist, showmanship, memorable moments, or really whatever reason. I'd say it'd be the show at the Roseland Ballroom because of the setlist. Warning hadn't even been released yet so that was all new material at the time. They played Wilhelm Fink and even teased a little bit of Desensitized! Ending on Scattered is a stroke of genius. And we have the whole thing recorded! It's the unpopular opinions thread, not all opinions have to squeeze in here . You're welcome to make a thread for this, I've just searched and I don't there already is one, and it'd be a cool topic to discuss!
Z J
So she can start a potentially massive video thread but I can't start a damn lyrical analysis thread blasphemy

Anaïs.
Not to bring back the whole "Billie is an unlikable egomaniac" thing, but I'm listening to the Goat Island bootleg right now and he just seems so much more likable back then in the Warning era, just way more cool and friendly. *sighs*

Gwen Stacy
It's the unpopular opinions thread, not all opinions have to squeeze in here They don't have to, but if we're being honest, this is the Green Day opinions thread. And that's my unpopular opinion

It worked to perfection. I first heard of them b/c of AI. Billie with his odd nasal snarl and his all black with eyeliner get up immediately caught my eye. That image lasted through 21cb but now that he's out of rehab I'd say he has reverted back to the Warning days. That parallel between now and the Warning era truly does exist IMO. Not only with Billie's persona/image but also where they are musically and where they are in the eyes of the mainstream.
Hermione
They don't have to, but if we're being honest, this is the Green Day opinions thread. And that's my unpopular opinion Kind of sucks if everything just gets posted in here instead of having new/different threads to talk about stuff though, I know it tends to happen but I do try to discourage it when possible. Just in general we like to encourage making new threads rather than just having giant ones that cover too many different things. It's really a good idea for a thread, you should go ahead and make it.

tdlyon
Ever since I noticed that Billie doesn't pronounce the "T" in Castaway (he says "cassaway") I haven't been able to listen to it without noticing it.
Hermione
exception to that rule=me :/ Oh no I don't mean everyone has to make new threads (I can never think of anything good to make them about so I very rarely do ). I just mean if someone has something to post that would make a good new thread then it's preferable to make one rather than try to fit it in an existing one that isn't really the same subject. Same with Green Day News, we prefer people to make threads for cool news items rather than just posting everything in the Random News thread for example. Basically the message is just don't be scared to make a thread if you have something that could be worthy of a thread to post, it's a good thing to do. Hermione
Ever since I noticed that Billie doesn't pronounce the "T" in Castaway (he says "cassaway") I haven't been able to listen to it without noticing it. See, this isn't an unpopular opinion, it'd fit better in Random Green Day Thoughts. Please stop thinking you have to post everything in this thread by default everyone! If you want to post something that isn't an opinion about Green Day that you suspect is particularly unpopular then find a different thread for it or make a new one. Don't worry I was just kidding I think I'm up to like 5/5 in starting threads that are closed within an hour Aww well can't win em all . We do try to leave them open whenever possible though I promise, and if it turns out there was already a thread for it or whatever so it does end up getting closed there's no shame in it.

Hermione
I just said that because people were discussing the song Ahh fair enough, just read it on its own! But yeah just in general I think we (myself included) should try to keep to unpopular opinions a bit more strictly in here instead of just using an opinion that might be vaguely unpopular to then have any random Green Day discussion. There are other threads to use to talk about stuff (and if not we can make new ones).
Guest
I don't see what's wrong with letting the conversation develop organically. This thread has always been really fun and one of my personal favorites because it's a place where I can argue about Green Day and hear some really interesting opinions, but it's also a place where we have full-blown conversations and it's not interrupted by a lot of "Get back on topic." It was bound to spend more time going down rabbit-holes than sticking to the topic anyway, there's only so many times I can say I like "Nightlife" or DookieLukie can say American Idiot is shite
