xxPistolxx
Insomniac so near the bottom is "pretty standard?!" Unfortunately Insomniac is -i think- the most underrated Green Day album. Even though its pretty genius and quite frankly one of my favorites. I don't know why people don't like it, or maybe they don't know about it. The only song everyone knows off of Insomniac is Brain Stew, and there are a lot of better songs than that in the album. People suck. Since I'm kinda getting tired of all the opinions on the Trilogy, I'm gonna post a different opinion. Now I don't know if this is really unpopular or not, but I believe Nimrod is one of the absolute best albums Green Day has ever made. It is up there with American Idiot in my book. I have such an emotional connection with about 5/6 of the songs on there (and then of course there are songs like King For a Day, which is just fun). Nimrod is actually one of the best albums It sort of has a bit of everything. Depressing shit, awesome stuff, and a song about drag queens. What more can we ask for XD

It's my favourite overall, I mean I guess I can see why it might not be to everyone's taste, but you're right in that it's vastly underrated. It just surprises me that Brain Stew seems to be the most popular song on their when it's one of the weaker tracks on the album. It just surprises me that Brain Stew seems to be the most popular song on their when it's one of the weaker tracks on the album. I can't choose an all time favorite album, but Insomniac has to be one of the best. To be honest its one of the deepest darkest albums green day made, and the anger in it, the frustration and the punk sound to it was much more than to Dookie. And you got that right, Brain Stew is in fact one of the weaker tracks. Might i ask, in your opinion what do you think are the stronger tracks in the album? "Christian's Inferno" is more punk than anything on the Trillogy. As for energetic songs...title track, KYE (for all its faults), Murder City, Horseshoes and Handgrenades, The Static Age, American Eulogy... And the sadass ones are some of the most awesome ones! Amen. You are one epic person my dear friend. Horseshoes and Handgrenades is by far one of the most energetic songs Green Day has ever written! The anger to it is fucking amazing! I go damn nuts when i listen to it.

xxPistolxx
Are we doing the "'X' Green Day album isn't punk" argument? SURPRISE GUYS, GREEN DAY ISN'T EVEN PUNK AT ALL GET IT TOGETHER FOR FUCK'S SAKE. FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT. THANK YOU. YOU ARE AWESOME. (most are in denial yknow) Sadly, you and I are a dying breed in these here parts. I don't quite understand why so many Green Day fans hate on 21st Century Breakdown. Its very underrated. The problem is that it is an EPIC album, and i mean it in every way. And frankly its better than American Idiot. I don't understand all the fuss thats going on about American Idiot. I'm not saying its not an amazing album, it is, its a very amazing album. But Breakdown is much deeper, and the whole theme to it is amazing.

Actually, most people in this thread like 21CB quite a bit—I don't prefer it to AI like you do, but it's in my top five for sure. I was referring specifically to Horseshoes and Handgrenades—for some reason NO ONE likes that song and I can't fathom why.
Hermione
Horseshoes and Handgrenades—for some reason NO ONE likes that song and I can't fathom why. Only in this thread! I've never seen a bad word against it on GDC other than a few crazy people saying they don't like it in here. Definitely one of the most well loved songs during the 21st CB era, everyone talked about how badass it was and wondered why they didn't play it live.

Spike
Well, I don't like Horseshoes and Handgrenades, and Breakdown is one of my favourite albums. It just seems to be kind of overproduced for the style. And it's just Main Offender, which I never liked in the first place.

People suck. It's my second favorite GD album behind AI. While I can't understand why anyone would rank anything ahead of AI I can sort of understand Insomniac. People sort of look at is as "oh that was the album where they were all pissed" and they disregard it. The melodies definitely aren't as accessible as the ones on Dookie and I think people are sort of turned off by that. It took a little while to grow on me but once it did I began to uncover the incredible passion and lyrical wit that the album has.
Hermione
Billie probably couldn't handle the screeching it requires live. It's funny you say that actually, in one of the earliest interviews when the album came out they were asked which of the songs they enjoyed playing the most and Tre said H&H, and Billie looked at him and was like "really?". So you might be on to something He was really enthusiastic about East Jesus Nowhere in interviews when the album came out as well, it was the number one thing they got asked about and Tre was saying he couldn't wait until it was out as a single so it could make an impact and stuff. Shame the AI musical's success happened right before it was going to be a single so they swept it under the rug in a rushed double release with 21st CB and no proper video and then only promoted the musical and 21st CB songs that were in the musical from then on so there was never a chance for that to happen . Still annoys me lol, could've been so great if they'd released it earlier with a good video.
Backyard Skulls
Insomniac is great: Stuart and the ave, tightwad will, westbound sign and stuck with me I like 21CB but Christians inferno and see the light are horrible songs. My favourite is horseshoes and handgrenades funnily enough static age and peacemaker are close seconds.

Well Babs' Uvula Who? is probably my overall favourite Green Day song, and Walking Contradition is lyrical perfection. Panic Song, Stuck With Me, Stuart & The Ave and 86 are all amongst my favourites, too. And that's without even mentioning Geek Stink Breath or No Pride. Z J
I don't hate the song. It just never grew on me. Listen to it more. Trust me you need this. I'd say unequivocally GD's BEST melody is Castaway. No doubt in my mind.

Whoa, now that's an interesting one. Best rhythm/feel maybe (gotta love a bit of Cuban), but best melody? That's a bold statement. I like it. Yep, first I thought about it and decided that I just love the way he runs his vocals up and then back down through the verses and the chorus is irresistible. Then I thought about songs that could top it melody wise and I just couldn't think of one. I think Stuart and The Ave, certain sections of JOS and Homecoming, and When I Come around are up there along with a plethora of others for honorable mentions
