Mega Man
We can always use some more Mike songs. Having a Dirnt-penned song on an album was nice way to change things up a bit.

Having a Dirnt-penned song on an album was nice way to change things up a bit. Plus he's got a lifetime worth of experiences that haven't been turned in to lyrics. I think Billie is on another planet as far as ability as a lyricist goes but even I can admit he must be running low on things to write about (one would assume). Mike hasn't written 1000+ pieces like Billie, so I think that helps.

I do love Mike's songs, but Billie's experience with rehab and related things might have provided some inspiration. The main problem with the Trilogy was that the lyrics weren't up to scratch and it didn't really sound like Billie had anything to say. Hopefully that might have changed in the last couple of years.

I hope that he has something to say about it, when he writes about such raw powerful things like addiction he hits the nail on the head. The Disappearing Boy
Is it bad that I hope that all of the crap the band has had in the last two years will lead to some good songs?
Chin for a Day
You misunderstand, we're talking about his writing about addictions well. Not being stoned to the rafters might put a better perspective on his writing.
Sauli
Billie was going through and wrote about addictions on the Trilogy It's different to write about drugs than to write drugged
Hermione
It's different to write about drugs than to write drugged He was "drugged" to some extent during writing every Green Day album to date . I don't think it's a very important factor in how good his writing is. And I don't think him "going through" stuff in general is either, he's written good songs through good and bad times in the past.

Haushinka! Hopefully that might have changed in the last couple of years. You hit the nail on the head, my friend. Many songs on the trilogy were very disappointing lyrically. In my opinion, they lack emotion, and creativity. I hope Billie has found some inspiration with what he's been going through and creates something profound. Hermione
I don't really get why people think Billie's going through rehab will have some magical effect on his songwriting, it's hardly the first big thing he's gone through in his life and Green Day's most acclaimed albums weren't written while he was going through anything bigger than their least acclaimed. There doesn't seem to be much correlation between how much stuff Billie's dealing with (or what substances he is or isn't using) and how good his writing is as far as I can see. I'll be interested to see how he writes about/takes inspiration from his rehab experiences but I don't have much reason to think the writing drawn from that will be any better the writing from anything else he's drawn inspiration from.
The Platypus!
All this bitching about the trilogy is pissing me off. It was THAT bad, well in my opinion it wasn't. Miles better than Insomniac and Warning.

The Platypus!
The first two sentences: completely agree. The last part: heresy. Maybe I went overboard with miles better, but none the less better. Insomniac was such a dull dreary album and warning was just meh.
Sauli
Warning is the best album they ever made. Especially lyrically.
