Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

His lyrics are good but don't get praised that often? He hasn't written that much and it probably isn't known by that many people that he's written anything to be fair so I can see the reason for the lack of recognition, but I agree what he has written is great and would love to see him write more. Billie said the same thing about him a few years ago actually so pretty sure the opportunity is there, I guess he just isn't as interested in songwriting.

I like Billie the Horny's lyrics as well though :P

It's a real shame he isn't more interested in songwriting but I guess there's nothing wrong with valuing quality over quantity. His stuff seems to fit a far more punky vibe than what Green Day have going on these days but it'd be good to see him write more for the Frustrators or something.

Yeah some Mike written Frustrators stuff would be cool! I suppose if he had the burning need to write stuff he probably already would write stuff for other projects if not with Green Day but it's nice to have seen a little of what he can do and to know there's always the opportunity for him to do more.

All in all, the conclusion is that the best thing that could happen is if Mike wrote the lyrics for their next album instead of Billie the Horny.

If they ever came out with a new record, I don't see this happening. I can see a song or two, but Billie is a good multi-tasker, he can be horny and maintain creative control at the same time.

Maintaining creative control and writing good lyrics, are two different things. Even John Lennon had some missteps. Billie just put all of his on one record. We should actually thank him, we can just skip Dos instead of just skipping tracks. He made it much easier for us.

I must maintain a bit of fangirlism and defend Billie a bit. He has given us 20+ years of some amazingly inspired, creative and imaginative lyrics. And he has been able to do it over and over again on a multitude of subjects. However, there was some serious messed up shit going on in his head when he wrote alot of these songs. I will give him a pass, he just better not do it again.

I just noticed, by the way, even the cover of Dos is hideous

Yeah, we mostly agree with you, but on GDC it's inappropriate to actually like Green Day unless your name is Hermione. ;)

Nice to meet a fellow Lennon fan, by the way :)

Inappropriate for a small number of people who frequent this thread and decided that amongst themselves maybe, not for anyone else though ;)

What happened to "oh but Foxboro and Green Day are two different bands?" :P

Billie is a good multi-tasker, he can be horny and maintain creative control at the same time

Billie is in both bands :P

No he's not, Foxboro are fronted by The Reverend Tinchy Stryder.

Lmao . He openly admitted that they were the Foxboro Hot Tubs shortly after the band emerged though, it's not like The Network, so the point stands :P

Ha, thanks for letting me know, I'll try to remember. ;) Anyway, to quote the great George Carlin: "The wrong two Beatles died first"

Oh yeah, SDR is a great record, but Dos is the more recent and thus the more indicative of his current abilities.

And I still don't get why disliking three albums is considered hating Green Day.

Mike is a far better lyricist than he ever gets credit for anyway, so yes.

It's far easier to look like a great lyricist when you've written like 5 songs. He's never had to write to fill an album. Not saying he couldn't be great, but we don't really know

Yeah that's true. But like I say, quality > quantity. No doubt he'd write some patchy stuff if he'd written hundreds of songs, but we can't know that for sure :P

I hate that Mike is on the cover of The Shite Album so much.

And he doesn't even get two pictures. Dammit, Lady Cobra.
