Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

First of all, I have nothing against country music as in general and old so called "outlaw" country has its place in my record collection. And there have been some great alternative country bands.

But maybe the current mainstream country has so many faults that nobody actually cares who writes those tunes? I mean, there's already so many other reasons to attack that genre? :P

We really don't talk about how Emenius Sleepus is one of the best songs on Dookie often enough.

The lyrics on that track are simple, but great. I love the little breakdown at the end too. Definitely in my top 3 on Dookie along with Sassafras Roots and Longview.

fuck country

is this what you wanted?

Four words: Old Crow Medicine Show.

Also the line "Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals, I had a young and optimistic point of view." is a personal favorite

That's going to be my title when I hit 3000 posts.

Ooh, thanks for the rec.

Not "The Son of a Bitch and Edgar Allan Poe?" :shok:

Fuck, of course! I decided on "wasted youth and a fistful of ideals" a month or two ago when I realised how much time I'd wasted last year instead of working, but you're absolutely right.

"the needle in the vein of the fuzztablishment"?

Damn, now I'm realising just how much thought I should've put into this. There are so many options now...

And sorry for double posting, but:

Green and 1D may have some relations musically, both have strong pop influences, and there are some aspects of bubblegum pop in Green Day's music. But the biggest difference is that Green Day's songs were lyrically honest, controversial and even in the beginning more original than your average pop lyricism. And of course, in my opinion, Green Day's songs are shittons better, but that's not the point. The point was that some kind of connection could be made, but that's not very prominent at all.

Even though especially on their debut album Billie Joe wrote a fair share of clichéd teenage romance stuff (which is only natural for Christ's sake, and not a sin per se) he also already wrote some more mature, versatile lyrics. You always can see the touch of his personal style and you can see he writes what he feels whereas the more stereotypical lyrics of One Direction could be penned by practically anyone, and you wouldn't notice any difference.

The lyrics of 39/Smooth described perfectly!

Yeah honestly I've always assumed that all mainstream country is written by the same guy. It seems like it.

I'm going with "Magic man, egocentric plastic man"

or "Cold turkey's getting stale. Tonight I'm eating crow"

or "Sects of disconnection and traditions of lost faith"

or "What's the latest way that a man can die? Screaming Hallelujah"

or "Seasons change as well as minds"

or- fuck. I can't do this. I'm just going to quit GDC at 2,999 posts so I don't have to deal with the pressure

Before, I think—I don't remember a conspiracy?

That's exactly what I would expect a co-conspirator to say!

There wasn't really one

:P But I'm setting that up as my excuse

But by that logic...EVERYONE is a conspirator!

No Pride.

Wait, the songs on Insomniac have lyrics? I thought Billie was just mumbling the whole time!

Check them out! Most of them are brilliant.

I'm listening to Ashley now and must say I really love it's dark vibe.
