My favourite thing about Paper Lanterns is the way they used to play it live during the Dookie/Insomniac era, making it about 10 minutes long with lots of silly messing around, call and response and singing of bits of jokey covers in the middle. It was the King For A Day/Shout of its time!

I've always disliked the Network's music without ever having really listened to it. Well, I've listened to a couple of songs on youtube, but they've never really struck me. I'll have to give it a proper go one day.

Do it! Even if you're not much into the style of music it's worth it for the fun and comedy value, there's some solid music and lyrics there but the whole thing is also an over the top parody of 80's new wave (plus there's funny songs like Spike and Right Hand-A-Rama) so it's pretty amusing. Also cool to hear plenty of Mike singing (and Tre on Hungry Hungry Models).

Drama Queens brilliant and the bleed part doesnt even bother me, i dont think its intent is to reference periods.

I think that is its intent, but I don't really see why that's an issue, especially as it's being used as a metaphor.

That´s it. It´s ridiculous, funny, stupid, amusing, catchy... and I love "Spike", always makes me lol, he´s such a desaster. My favorite side project still is FBHT. ;)

I don't know how unpopular this is, but I really feel like Restless Heart Syndrome doesn't get the attention it deserves. I've been listening to it quite a lot this week, and I think its one of the best songs on 21st Century Breakdown. Also it occurred to me that lyrically it is almost the 21st Century Breakdown equivalent of Letterbomb, in the way that it ties the story of 21st Century Breakdown together with the "know your enemy' line. Speaking of which, I can still remember the way that sent chills down my spine when I first heard it.

Also, I am still yet to hear all of Money Money 2020, but Roshambo is a gem of a track.

I'm one of those people who's OCD about having to actually own all of his music, so I've never made a Spotify account. I probably should at some point, though.

I am the same way! I use Grooveshark or YouTube sometimes when I am at work, but it's just not right. I am obessive about having all my music properly labeled and all on my computer, and I also love to have the physical original albums of my favorite bands.

Agreed. RHS is very underrated, although not by GDC I don't think. It's such a good song.

I have to own all the music I want, but I don't really like download-only stuff - for me, it's CD or nothing. I've ripped all the CDs to my hard drive, but I don't want something purely digital (that's why I haven't got Lights Out & Hearts Collide).

I forget about RHS a lot, but whenever I listen to it I remember that it is a really powerful song. The build-up is a bit slow, but seeing as I'm a fan of "The Forgotten," I guess I can't complain too much about it :P

RHS is easily one of their best songs. I don't consider the start slow, it's more tense, and the false releases continue building the tension so the release when the solo comes in is enormous.

With you there! Insomniac is amazing, there's only one song on there that sometimes I don't feel like listening to.

I think it speaks to how much we frequent this thread that I'm almost positive I know the song without ever asking or conversing about it. :P

I don't really like how a lot of Green Day fans seem to dislike some songs purely because they're 'slow'

I liked the variety of rock/metal covers they would do, like Rock You Like a Hurricane, Eye of the Tiger, We're Not Gonna Take It, Metal Health, and Master of Puppets. All we get now are Highway to Hell, Iron Man, Crazy Train, and a few times during 21CB they did Paranoid and Baba O'Riley, and an occasional other. I don't like any of the songs they play during King for a Day.

For some reason I can't stand the "Holiday--- Suicide---" part in Deadbeat Holiday. Like it ruins the song for me. On the other hand I don't really mind "When all you want to do--- not to--- give up."

Same! It always seemed like he was just throwing in buzzwords to sound deep/edgy.

It's kind of weird that Billie puts depressing lyrics in songs that sound like you're in fucking Disneyland.

Let's give an example :

"Blood, Sex and Booze"

"Throw them to the dogs, let them eat my flesh down..."

Jesus, and the melody is so damn amazing. I get it, he could put that in one of his unreleased norwegian black metal songs, but in BSB - it just doesn't fit.

Blood Sex and Booze, I'd like to think, is at least partly humorous, isn't it? Wouldn't call the lyrics depressing, though.

Besides, depressing lyrics and uplifting music is an old trick, and it works.

A fucking Disneyland, on the other hand, is just plain creepy. Since obviously someone or something must be doing it with it.
