Unfortunately, you aren't. I agree - the music's okay enough, but Billie should really reserve the IMO-barely coherent lyrics for another song. And yes, Sassafras Roots is massively underrated. Spike
Am I the only one who thinks that the Forgotten would be perfectly tolerable if it had different lyrics the music itself isn't really that bad, if you ask me. Yeah, the music is just boring and inoffensive. Which is part of the problem - it puts so much more focus on those absurd lyrics.
Sauli
Yeah, the music is just boring and inoffensive. Which is part of the problem - it puts so much more focus on those absurd lyrics. But it has potential. If it had better lyrics and a bit more interesting arrangement, it could work. I think actually the cover you posted supports that point of view. And it just makes it even more embarrassing how much that song sucks as it is.
Hermione
I don't think the music is boring, I've never heard them go as full on classical and pretty as that before and I find that impressive. I also don't know how the lyrics can be considered "absurd", they're a bit fluffy in places but mostly simple. Bit like, say, the lyrics of 21 Guns.
AlissaGoesRAWR
i don't really have one, but if i had to choose probably sassafrass roots? i have so much love for that song. Does the 2nd video here earn me the bass back? Sassafras Roots is awesome, massively underrated. And yes, Sassafras Roots is massively underrated. Sassafras Roots love! Squeeeee! Mykee Mexx
Makeout Party? Sure, it's vulgar and blunt, but it sounds good, and that's more important to me. Vulgar and blunt... that´s why...
Popular Post Hermione
Vulgar and blunt... that´s why... Yeah exactly! Being vulgar and blunt is the whole point of that song so it's hardly a flaw. The lyrics, the music....it's a half fun and half creepy debauched mid-life crisis party.

And your thoughts have taken their toll When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul Your faith walks on broken glass and the hangover doesn't pass Nothing's ever built to last, you're in ruins this and Did you try to live on your own? When you burned down the house and home? Did you stand too close to the fire? Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone this from 21 Guns definitely tops Well, don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream Don’t look away, sometimes you’re better lost than to be seen Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of love 21 Guns definitely has a bit of that vagueness to it, so it's a valid comparison but I think 21 Guns has far better lyrics and a far better composition
Hermione
Yeah, the vagueness is the similarity I'm referring to. In terms of which is better it's subjective though, and you've just posted my favourite part of The Forgotten so it doesn't convince me . I really like those lyrics, simple and to the (very worthwhile) point about embracing the important things.

I'm sorry, but playing a bunch of chords (literally 4 chords on repeat) on the piano whilst a string quartet plays the melody line over it is pretty damn far from classical music. 99% of bad pop songs on the radio show more creativity than that. The Forgotten is basically 21 Guns without electric guitars and worse lyrics. And the lyrics on 21 Guns aren't it's strong point.

The most full on piano and strings laden pretty sounding ballad they've done then. I know it's not particularly complex but it does sound different to other Green Day songs, they've done other ballads of course but they usually have a rougher or rockier edge to them and aren't quite as prettified as that. It´s exactly what I need for my boss´ big birthday party next week! Sounds like it could be an interesting party!
Mykee Mexx
Sounds like it could be an interesting party! I bet it will be. Just preparing a jumpsuit for him with flames and logos of his favourite soccer club and AC/DC. And he will play music himself (Blues and Rock, he plays guitar and mouthorgan). And, yeah, it will be interesting, ´cause the place is too small for all the people he invited, he told me... It´s gonna be hot and loud. Hope, he plays some GD... Z J
If Green Day wants to do piano ballads with really simple piano than you may as well give us some great vocal moments (See: Last Night on Earth). The Forgotten's vagueness could be forgiven if it came with some legit vocals
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love
The Forgotten definitely isn't a lyrical masterpiece, but this part of 21 Guns Did you stand too close to the fire? Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone Just makes zero sense and the entire of the Forgotten is better than this line. It's just bad. Like, what does "standing too close to the fire" or what it is metaphor for, have to do with a liar looking for forgiveness in the wrong place. And why a stone. Who would look for forgiveness in a stone? I get that it's supposed to be something that can't/doesn't feel emotions or something so it can't give forgiveness either, but stone is such a random word to use there and it sounds really weird. I don't care if this is an unpopular opinion or not, it's bad line, period.

It seems to me, to be talking about a dishonest person seeking forgiveness he doesn’t really want or even need, from a source that can’t and wouldn’t need to give it (the stone). Not to mention the line is a part of the greatest bridge they have (live)
