I agree! But there are so many great songs how is one supposed to choose! :/

that's why you don't choose and just say they're all amazing :P

I adore Whatsername and it's the perfect closer to the album, and some of the lyrics are utterly haunting. But the way the album closes with Bille rhyming time with time really grates on me.

My bottom four are probably, in no particular order, the title track, Extraordinary Girl, Give Me Novacaine, St. Jimmy. But please keep in mind that's not really a comment on their quality and it's like executing my children to choose such a thing anyway.

What exactly is haunting about the lyrics?

You mean it's fun and awesome? :woot:

Erm. :ermm:

Well they're very poignant and relatable, particularly the first verse, and the music just fits them perfectly.

I don't really find anything too creative about the lyrics other than the "burned all the photographs" and "did she ever marry old whatshisface" parts. The ending is really powerful and emotional, but I think the subject matter of the song makes that epic breakdown come off a bit angsty.

I don't think it needs to be creative though. It's just direct and honest. Maybe you have to really relate to it to appreciate it fully, because I do see what you mean. But then again it was 2004, rock music had to be angsty.

AI is the definitive teen angst album. Of course the last song is going to be angsty as fuck.

Pun kinda intended.

i didn't even realize that until like two years ago and ever since then it has slightly bothered me, but it's so otherwise awesome that i don't really care.

The rhyming throughout the song is a bit odd, so that's never stood out to me.

I see what you mean, there are a lot of half rhymes and the scheme is pretty loose, but that one's just always really annoyed me.

I don't find American Idiot that angsty tbh. Some times a line will sound kind of whiny but otherwise I think it's pretty mature in how it approaches things.

It's literally written from the viewpoint of a teenage white suburban rebel, the most angsty people in the world.

I never even noticed the rhyming thing on Whatsername before. I doubt it'll bother me though

I just noticed some of JOS is lifted from Black Sabbath

Really? Never noticed it. Not that i really listen to black sabbath but i'm sort of familar with some of their songs. I've noticed very little things that billie puts in it from david bowie and The Who but what exactly is lifted and from what song? And it probably isn't too bad if ozzy osbourne really likes the album, right?

Yeah, Extraordinary Girl, has good chorus, but nothing else. Rest of the song is boring.

Extraordinary girl has the best vocals from Mike. Just focus on those for once, your life will never be the same

Really? Which bit?

The I don't care section is lifted from Children Of The Graves

Oh not saying it's bad just something I noticed when I was with a friend last night and he was playing some Sabbath songs in the car

I think more obviously stylistically the transitions are almost exactly the same as the transitions in the who's a quick one. Plus the title is sorta taken from a david bowie song, buddha of suburbia and the opening riff is similar to the main riff in that song as well. But it's still a brand new song with smart influences which is true for a lot of really good rock and roll.

Other than The Man Who Sold The World album and few songs I don't know much of Bowie's work I'll have to check that song out
