Heather.
I don't hate Jesus. Neither does Billie Joe This is not so much an opinion as a wondering... would Green Day be active this summer/fall if Britt wasn't going thru treatment? I kind of think so. Not blaming her at all, I just think things might have been planned out differently for at least a portion of 2014.

But as I said, it's impossible to know.

But as I said, it's impossible to know. I think that's a good point. If they intended to tour this year they surely wouldn't have done Dookie then. That said, maybe they knew Brittney was ill back then and just didn't want to tell us yet. Just a thought.

I don't think Britt knew, she mentioned in one comment that it had been a certain amount of months since she was diagnosed. I don't remember exactly when, but it was not too long before the rest of us found out. I think it's probable that they had anticipated being open to random benefits/performances/gigs, but had no plans for a real tour.

That said, maybe they knew Brittney was ill back then and just didn't want to tell us yet. Just a thought. That's possible. The though that had crossed my mind was that they wanted to do a short tour plus a couple of shows abroad to kind of 'make up' for the fact that they cancelled so many shows. I'm sure they felt bad about that after all. But we don't know just how extensive Billie's problem was, or how extensive his rehab was. So my theory was that he got well enough to do the tour, but they knew all along that a full-blown tour was out of the question, either due to Billie' health or Britt's. Given how much of a toll long term touring took on Billie I think it's totally understandable they're having a year off, whatever the reason. I'd be surprised if he wasn't writing songs though, so maybe we might get an album sooner than expected as a result.

I'm sure he's writing, but I doubt we'll see an album in the next year. Maybe 2016?

Anaïs.
I don't care if Green Day never releases new material. I agree. The Trilogy has really made me skeptical of their next album being up to their usual standards, and I'd be perfectly content with just listening to their back catalog for the rest of my life. I do still want to see them live, but they don't have to be releasing new material to tour every now and then.

Popular Post Z J
I don't care if Green Day never releases new material. Gotta disagree, I think we've seen them go about as low as they can go quality wise with the trilogy. And even then, there was enough good songs on the trilogy to make a solid album of say 12 songs. I think the only way to go is up, and there is plenty Billie and the band can draw from for inspiration, considering Billie's rehab and Mike's wife being sick. Bottom line is: If they had released one decent album instead of the whole trilogy, I don't think we're even having this conversation. And I think that Green Day and Billie Joe specifically still have a lot to offer.

Exactly Turn on them for one sub par album (I count the trilogy as one project) kinda foolish IMO
Spike
I think Mike and Tre have more left to offer than Billie, but it's not like any of them are burning out.

Anaïs.
I fucking love pretty much all of Nimrod., but the second half is definitely not quite as good as the first half. Take Back and Walking Alone just don't measure up, and Reject isn't an especial favorite of mine.
