Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

Unpopular Opinion: Billie lost a step after rehab performance-wise.

Here's a video shortly before rehab. You can feel his presence and energy. Larger than life.

Here's the same song after rehab. I can't put my finger on it, but it feels boring. Like he's just going through the ropes.

What does everyone think?

Immediately after rehab he actually came back with a great energy in the US leg of the tour, I thought. He was just grateful to be alive. But yes as they moved on to the festivals the whole band seemed a bit more disengaged and Billie's voice wasn't strong.

However by the time they reached Australia they were performing at the top of their game again. Australia held some incredible performances.

I agree something seemed a bit off at Reading. But at Brixton a few days earlier Billie was on fire. It's unfair to decide he's lost it or whatever based on one performance. We've come to expect a hell of a lot from him and the fact is even the best performers in the world have off nights.

I think he underperformed at the festivals, but based on the Australian leg he's capable of getting near that 21CB tour level again.

Why?

Just because it's a typical casual festival crowd, and they need to be entertained by hits and dancing every few seconds to keep them interested. Lots of people I know said they sucked at Reading, I responded with why? And all they could come up with is "I didn't know barely any the songs." I know it's dumb because the shows should be about the fans and music but still.

I do prefer sober Billie over non-sober Billie as well. He sounds better not drunk live...

Sure, there's even great feeling listening to him because we know he is sober.

I don't think he was always drunk when playing live before. I haven't noticed much difference between "before" and "after", probably because whether he was under the influence of anything or not and loads of other factors besides that which might affect his performance have always varied a lot between shows so there's always been various differences between them.

I can see your point about crowds at festivals, but at Reading bands often play whole albums, seems to be kind of a tradition (and a well liked one). Plus Dookie itself has 3 or 4 hits on it, adding that to the rest of the songs they played there must've been a fair few reasonably well known ones, with or without Dookie there still would've been some that lots of people knew and some that lots of people didn't.

Amanda is one of my favorite Trilogy songs.

:really:

On the one hand, it was a great opportunity to promote the Trilogy, so in that respect it was a bad idea to play it (not to mention the fact that last year was the 19th anniversary, not the 20th!), but on the other hand, we get a full pro shot of Dookie, so that can't be too bad!

But they didn't want to tour this year, so at least we had some celebration of Dookie instead of none

Amanda is one of my favorite Trilogy songs.

I knew I liked you for a reason.

My top trilogy songs, in no particular order (and honestly the only ones I think should've been recorded): Fell For You, Amanda, X-Kid, Missing You, Stay the Night, Rusty James, Lazy Bones, and Sex, Drugs & Violence (Demolicious version is so great!).

Throw in a couple other average songs like Fuck Time, 99 Revolutions and Stray Heart (maybe even Nuclear Family or Let Yourself Go) and tweak everything with a slightly more polished Demolicious sound and I honestly don't think the trilogy would've been that bad as a single album. Those songs aren't that bad if they're tweaked a bit and they're recorded differently.

I like the melody, and it seems like one of the few genuine love songs on there.

Genuine love song for a girl called Amanda, written by a guy married to someone called Adrienne.

Hence the "of the few". :P "Missing You" is up there too.

 My top seven are, in no particular order, Oh Love, Amanda, Brutal Love, Missing You, Dirty Rotten Bastards (I know it sucks but it's fun as shit to listen to), Rusty James, and Kill the DJ with distorted guitars.

But she's already too good for him

I mean, I'll take him off her hands if he's too much trouble. Y'know, sacrificing for the needs of others and such.

I feel like I never really gave KTDJ a chance, especially since the music video is so ridiculous. I don't even remember it with distorted guitars? As I've said before, I just can't get into Brutal Love or DRB either... sorry.

Oh, I thought you meant it was an official teaser version or something. I remember this! I wish he posted on here still.
