Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

There's nothing wrong with saying that losing weight is something positive. Especially if it's your opinion - it has nothing to do with being a fangirl.

Yes, losing weight may be a positive thing but one's weight has nothing to do with one's music. Its damn shallow to think so.

Also, he wasn't even fat really. Only a bit chubby, probably not even over-weight at all.

The Basket Case performance is top-notch too. I just wish he didn't sound high/kinda drunk during it.

Yeah, the whole thing is awesome. Plus they did the beginning of Nuclear Family a while before it was released.

I didn't mean that Warning was a bad album because Billie was chubby. But I am sure that if a band releases an unsuccessfull album and changes image so that most of the members look scruffy, it doesn't make a good impression. When they released American Idiot and changed their image again nobody had doubt there weren't problems in the band anymore. It is not an important thing, but it's something people see - even the people who aren't interested in the band. And it makes a certain impression. I think it should make as good impression as possible.

A whole week before it was released! WOW!

I actually loved most of the trilogy. I thought it was a nice break from the rock operas, because, although AI and 21stCB are my two favorite albums (not just for Green Day, really just in general), it would've gotten a little old if GD kept churning out one rock opera after another. The only track I REALLY ABSOLUTELY LOATHED was Nightlife, which I honestly just want to maim and hurl into a bonfire.

His weight loss and the whole band's re-branding had A LOT to do with the success of AI.

Don't know if this is unpopular or not, but I prefer AAF over BIAB.

I'm pretty certain that's very unpopular :P

I agree with that. The BIAB DVD is massively superior but the AAF CD is way better, and given that I listen to audio more than I watch videos I have to say AAF is better.

Yeah I've really never understood why they went for Awesome As Fuck, and then also chose to censor it. It just seems so tryhard, and it wasn't really in keeping with what they were doing at the time.

loads of fans held up signs that said 'awesome as fuck' at some show or other, i wanna say detroit. it became a thing and they liked it so they went with it for the album title

Yeah, plus AAF also had the better setlist.

They chose to announce Awesome as F**k right when I was trying to convince my parents that the band wasn't immature and gratuitously profane. Well played, Green Day, well played.

In which case I'm sincerely looking forward to the next live DVD after Ceadog's "Jeff Matika Fondles Pigeons" sign at Brixton.

i'm going to dedicate my life to the cause.

"With you around, you'll only add on" ;)

No way it's like that! Maybe he sings "you'll only add on", but there's definitely something else after that and I can't figure out what.

Here's one for everybody: I think Stuart and the Ave is one of Green Day's best songs. It always seems to slip through the cracks in terms of recognition but I think it's fantastic. The lyrics are clever and the song does a really good job of conveying the rage and anger that Insomniac is known for.

I agree, It is one of the best songs on Insomniac.

If only Billie could not fuck it up for once :( I don't blame him though, I always seem to fuck it up too, probably because I've listened to that acoustic version too many times.

Got-damn. I wish he knew the words to his own songs as well as we do. Maybe that's why they never play some songs: he just doesn't know the damn words.

"Uh... hang on... second verse coming up!" Oh Billie...

I think I've said before that I'm convinced at this point he's deliberately being malicious and trolling us.

Gotta say, though, I still love the acoustic version. KALX and Goat Island are my favorite Green Day bootlegs.

Goat Island? I see you haven't ventured very far into the downloads section . I love the brightness and the atmosphere of Goat Island, the venue is one of a kind.

And that one was from 1998. He probably remembers less and less every year. If you asked him right now to play it, he'd probably say "Stuart and the Ave? Who's that by?"

My favourite moment of Billie forgetting lyrics is from the Fritz Radio show where some guy called David requested The Grouch and the second verse was "The wife's a nag and the kid's fucking up, David comes and I don't know the words..."
