WhiteTim
I love Insomniac made my love for Green Day bigger Dookie was good but when I bought Insomniac first week on cassette man my first GD concert was the Insomniac tour My only complaint on Insomniac is the vocals being buried part
Sauli
How..? It's musically one of the best things they've ever done. Very simple but it's an awesome arrangement. I find it quite boring melodically. The arrangement is good, though. Especially the long intro. But the melody is quite predictable. I am no way saying its bad though- I just don't get why you all praise it so much. Another thing about Insomniac. The lyrics are good. And sometimes I see opinions how early Green Day-so to say- pre-AI- was merely only a tongue-cheek band that didn't take anything seriously. There are some humorous elements for sure and I no way am against that- quite the opposite honestly. But what amazes me, even on Dookie, behind that cover there can be found quite serious, if you get it, overtones. That is even more true when it comes to Imsomniac. I may laugh at those lyrics, in a good way, but those themes are real. Panic attacks, insomnia, maturation and so on. Which is why, when some dump ass rocj journalist categorises Green Day as a joke band, I get irritated. Its ok not to like something, for sure, but I have never get how Green Day somehow is less real than other bands. Since honestly, their lyrics are good. Of course, only a fool cares about things like that, but then again, everybody is a fool sometimes and now it is my turn (again ) but how does something become less real if it is not utterly serious? JOE THE X-KID
Would it be wrong of me to say that Nimrod has the best production out of all of their albums. The bass is fat and warm. The guitar has a lot of punch and bite without overpowering the bass, and the drum kit has tons of punch and aggression without being overly bright or compressed. The vocals also sit nicely in the mix.
The Disappearing Boy
While we're talking about lyrics, it's worth mentioning nimrod; easily some of Billie's best.

The Disappearing Boy
Listened to Insomniac earlier and some of my favourite lyrics came from Bab's Uvula Who: 'RNGJSNJSNOE84*y*£JIFMKMDFKLSDFKJKJANNUMALLWOUNDUP' 'MISWEFNEF38198*"U80e-2nIFEL'BWEJSNFJAKEPANNICATAAAHHK' 'IFJKASOFNJAJEFU)U£E£FLKM{KFPOK!LKD)!ANMABBLUPRESSUREIZEEEEEEEYYEE'
Todd
Pitting Westbound Sign against Bab's Uvula Who would be like making Stephen Hawking box with Muhammed Ali. Yeah, Westbound Sign would win easily, I see what you're saying
Guest
Pitting Westbound Sign against Bab's Uvula Who would be like making Stephen Hawking box with Muhammed Ali. Stephen Hawking fires a laser from his S.C.I.E.N.C.E.B.I.T.C.H. Wheelchair and opens a black hole above Ali. Ali is sucked in, Hawking wins in the first round. Ali wakes up in an alternative dimension where Tré Cool is regarded as the greatest lyrical mind of his generation, and pizza taste like eggs. The Disappearing Boy
You're saying he's not? Exactly. 'Want you to spank me and call me naughty' is one of the best lines ever written.
Spike
Exactly. 'Want you to spank me and call me naughty' is one of the best lines ever written. That line pales into insignificance next to "Put a belt sander against my skin, yee-haw."
klytaemnestra
How could it be the best line ever written when you've got the tender, emotive "Nibble on my dick like a rat does cheese"? tre didn't write that line though (apologies if i just ruined a joke)

Proves the point even more; Tre Cool is probably the greatest lyricist of the 20th and 21st century. Or indeed any century.

Pat1308
That line pales into insignificance next to "Put a belt sander against my skin, yee-haw." That girl’s from outer spaceShe’s got a pretty faceShe’s got metallic hairHer tentacles go everywhere From the finest mind of our generation, ladies and gents. Oh, and Sonny Boy, which out of the songs Tre had ever written probably has the most depth (in terms of meaning).
Akshat Jain
I agree Tre is at least better than Dos, in terms of strong songs. (I'll argue that Dos is actually the weakest link in the trilogy.) But IMHO even Tre kinda ends on a limp note: read DRB and The Forgotten. (99 Revolutions is a bit meh, but the Demolicious version made me realize its potential.) i really respect your opinion, but tre ends with forgotten paying tribute to all those great personalities whom, the world has really forgotten, remember, the starting with Brutal love, the end is justified.
