Even better in the varied and experimental context of Nimrod. b) Billie sounds horrible when he screams?I think it sounds good! Instead of going for a genuinely scary sound like a death metal band or something he made it more of a angry snarl, so instead of being menacing he just sounds wound up and bitter, which I think suits him and the lyrics. I can't imagine he came up with that metaphor on his own at 19, that's insanely good. Maybe we're over-interpretting it?I think he could but I'm not sure if he would. That metaphor does catch your attention. Though I'm no way criticising the other lyrics of that song - it would still be an amazing song, but that one line makes it spectacular. Although it was probably played real early in 87/88, there's no report that it was ever played live at all. It sounds far more polished then a lot of their early material and was clearly a foreshadowing of what their future music would be like.
