I know they're green but it seems a bit lame to describe his own eyes in such a poetic way, like "my beautiful gem-like eyes" . And it doesn't seem that obvious an interpretation to me, it's a bit of a leap, so I find it strange that SO many people interpret it that way just from listening to it without the band having said anything about it. I like how there's that subtle bit of crudeness along with the romance, makes the song all the more genuine.
