Todd
Couldn't they just record the CD without Sweet Children EP? That's what the vinyl album is, CD just has them as bonus tracks. Separate them in your itunes, that's what I did. yes, them sweet children songs are kinda shite and their musical value is nigh naught. Anyway, it is good they were placed at the end, right? You can just stop after Words I Might Have Ate, right? that is what I usually do. Anyway, as historical documents they are right fascinating so i dont complain. If they werent put on kerplunk I guess that EP should be bought separately and I reckon it would also cost more money that way. Since no matter how shite those songs are, every self-respected Green Day fan should own them anyway. So overall, I cannot see what damage they make at the end of Kerplunk. And no matter who or what its always nice to hear bands covering the 'O I prefer the Sweet Children EP to most songs on Kerplunk. Strangeland > 2000 Light Years Away and Christie Road any day

Sauli
It could have been better if we had any idea just what the frig Billie is singing. About girls probably. And those guitars are out of tune or something I swear. I prefer the Sweet Children EP to most songs on Kerplunk. Strangeland > 2000 Light Years Away and Christie Road any day You are weird. Christie Road and especially 200 Light Years Away both are in my top 20. Very odd indeed.
Todd
It could have been better if we had any idea just what the frig Billie is singing. We only have half the lyrics to Strangeland, they were published in the Kerplunk tab book. Since they were recorded on tour, I guess Billie didn't have time to write out the lyrics for Skene About girls probably. And those guitars are out of tune or something I swear. You are weird. Christie Road and especially 200 Light Years Away both are in my top 20. Very odd indeed. I'm a hipster. Those two are too mainstream I find the lyrics of Strangeland very personal, or at least the lyrics we know. "The average person is everywhere, I got a job and now I'm scared... Feel what it's like to be wanted, and wonder why" I can connect to that, Strangeland just fits my personality so much better
Sauli
The problem with Strangeland is not the song itself or the lyrics. It is just a bloody bad recording. plus the lyrics of Christie Road with their escapism and vivid imagination of some hiding place strike a chord with me so there. That line "We'll always seem to find our way to Christie Road" seems to suggest that no matter what the enviroment is, the singer and his lover (or maybe only himself, the plural can also be there just because pop songs are usually about "us" even if the singer may only mean "me".) always find their way to that place, real or not. And after all whether it is a real place or not doesnt matter and the thing that matters is the state of mind. ...... It all sounds very fancy but maybe the song is only about weed "Smoked my boredom gone Slapped my brains up so high" Still, I like to think it as one of those classic escapistic songs. Dunno if that makes sense Also, the mention of mother suggests some kind of authority. LIke that the authorities are against that escape from the cruel reality (though most likely its weed again) But it can directly be about weed/boredom/ whatever but by reading between the lines you can sense it all adds up to something bigger.

Sauli
Production snob, I found one Yes it is, but that doesn't bother me I like Guided By Voices though And no, I just prefer words that can be heard and i prefer properly tuned guitars. And a good production can save a bad song and bad production cant destroy an awesome one (if its not absolutely horrible), but an average song and a bad production together are a complete turn off.
Hermione
I still love it just not as much as the other songs on there That's acceptable. For me the worst is Android, just can't get past the silliness of some of the lyrics (although I do appreciate the sentiment of them), and the music isn't particularly interesting. There are bits that are extremely silly, but the introspective lyrics and thoughts on aging and dying are expressed impressively, especially when you remember that they're coming from a barely 20-something Billie Joe. And yes, Android is a good song reflecting on growing up and the future - in that respect, it's quite like No One Knows. If only one can get past the whole thing about the old man in woman's shoes. Words that can be heard? I take it you're not a Nirvana fan then? Sauli
Words that can be heard? I take it you're not a Nirvana fan then? I still hve no idea what the lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit are I know approximately what they are but I have no clue what they mean. In Nirvanas case what matters more is how they feel. Nobody can be truly sure what he sings and most of us have no clue what those random words are about but everyone can tell that Smells Like Teen Spirit is an angstfull song And I do like Nirvana but I dunno if I consider myself as a fan of theirs. They used to be very important to me though but I dunno I do not listen to them very often nowadays. But you know, lyrics and badly tuned guitars would not matter if it was a good song. But it is mediocre. Derivative. Obvious. IMO. I just cant get into it
