Im just gonna say it: as much as jason is part of the band I don't consider him a member of Green Day

That's not an opinion, you're simply incorrect. Like it or not, Jason is an official member of Green Day.

Obviously this is the Unpopular Opinions thread for a reason. but it's a strange opinion to have considering he's been part of the band since before you were a fan. But we'll see next album how involved he is in promo stuff (like interviews). Until he's as active in that as the other three, he'll always be the fourth wheel to lots of people.

She didn't say he wasn't a member, she said she doesn't consider him one. That would be her opinion.

Could it be my opinion that Billie Joe isn't a member?

One could argue that he's the only member that matters anymore.

He can't play the sax though.

It's odd, but I've always considered Jason part of Green Day anyway. I got into them when American Idiot came out, and obviously he's in the WMUWSE video, then I saw them live about six months after getting into them and he was there, so it just seemed natural to me all along.

Look I wasn't saying he isn't a member, I said I don't think of him as one. Also this is the unpopular opinions page, so why you're upset over this is beyond me. I would think most of the comments on here would make any invested fan upset for the most part. As for when I started liking the band, that was just fate honestly I couldn't have known about the band any sooner really since I was born when Warning came out and I was eight when AI was released. Also if you look in the CD jacket, Jason is a featured musician, not a member of the band. However I do recognize the fact that he does most of the guitar work now and that he is actually a member of the band.

Jason is actually listed as a band member on the trilogy not as a featured musician like Tom Kitt or Lady Cobra was

But I understand how ya feel when a band was a three piece for so long it's hard to see another person added

The best thing about this thread is the blazing rows over opinions and everyone's ability to remain friends despite all the shit slinging :P Don't take it personally, it's all part of the fun!

Ability to remain friends, huh? That's an ability I don't have :P

I ain't even mad. :P I was just telling you that Jason is a part of the band. It's a fact. That's not really something you can have an opinion on.

The only thing on GDC that upsets me is that there is no longer a quote at the top of the page.

That vocals isolation thing is so strange... How many tracks have you done this for? How many more songs do you want to ruin for me?

He kind of sounds like a self-harmonized robot in parts of JOS, and I basically convinced myself he only did that in the trilogy, not in my beloved AI... even though I know I'm wrong.

I can ruin any that were on Rock Band :P Refer to the time I made the vocals louder on Geek Stink Breath and totally murdered the song.

Billie has always double tracked, it's a perfectly common production technique, and a lot of the time he joins in with the harmonies that Mike does. The main difference on the Trilogy was that Mike just didn't join in. God, I miss them doing stuff like Having A Blast, where it's unclear whether Billie or Mike is taking the lead. Oh, I guess that happened with the title track of Breakdown, but whatever, that's one song.

Anything on 21CB doesn't count. Just 'cause. And yes, I miss Mike's prominent vocals. A lot. One line in 37 songs is hardly justifiable.

Go on.

Should I put up my flame shield now? I really just don't care for the album all that much, for various reasons I've discussed on here before that really aren't all too unique. I think it's overdone, much too long and unrelatable. Also, nothing that followed AI was going to be well-received from a fangirl like me at the time, so it just never stood a chance to begin with... poor thing.

This is a shocking post and I'm far too tempted to play bad cop and delete it.

Freedom of speech! You can't moderate me!

But seriously, I do like some songs on it. And if I'm in a mood I can listen to parts of it. I just don't pick it up too consistently and rarely can I listen to it straight through. I think I've listened to See the Light maybe 4 times in my entire life.

Oh, but I can :P

You can't judge the album by one of the worst songs on it :P I do find listening to it more of an event than just listening to any old album, to be fair. It's the only album I'll only listen to in FLAC through good headphones.

Or maybe not...

Lukie is right I don't see Jason as an official gd member either.

No one in Green Day is an "official" member, they're all just members. But there's no rule that all members of Green Day have to play the same role in the band....Jason's is clearly still not on the exact same level as the others but who said it has to be. It is slightly annoying when people insist he's called an "official" member or worse say he "was announced as an official member" (when and where was this announcement?), deny there's any difference between him and the other three and expect him to suddenly play the exact same role as them, when really he's been part of the band for years and his role has just naturally and gradually got bigger with no labels or fanfare involved and it doesn't have to be exactly the same as the other three's roles unless they feel like it.

When someone asks me who are the members of GD I always say Billie, Mike and Tre. They are the official GD members. Jason is not.
