That's the accepted American way to spell it, same with "organize" or "maximize" etc... It's not wrong, It's no different than "color" and "colour". North America is an entirely different land mass than England, things are going to evolve differently, we are no longer an English colony :P

I know? :P

But what you did was that you suggested that Brits who use the version with the s naturally should also use the version with a z. And that makes no sense.

Besides, they teach the English way of spelling here so I'm personally gonna stick with it :P

Oh no, I wasn't suggesting that. See, I didn't know those words could be spelled with an 's', I googled it after Tom's post. I just wanted to acknowledge it since I found it interesting

ah well then. I was completely gobsmacked back then when I realised that color and favor and maximize are acceptable versions. Like, I felt that for years I'd been lied to at school.

Yeah s spellings like that, and sticking random Us in words is British spelling. A lot of American spelling is derived from British spelling of the mid 18th century. Even the month/day thing in dates; if you go to a graveyard in England and look at gravestones from the 18th century or before, most will use the month/day way of doing things.
