Anaïs.
I always forget just how damn strong BOBD is until I listen to AI in full, which is once a month or so. That being said, I'd be absolutely fine with losing it for good live and bringing back 21 Guns instead (assuming Billie's voice'd be up to it).
Spike
I'd rather they kept BOBD but started doing it properly again. I'm really not a fan of the acoustic verse and chorus, and overall it feels really weak without the tremolo guitar. 21 Guns is incredible live though, far better than the studio version.
Guest
It's not racist. We went over this. I somehow only just saw it for the first time just now. That might actually be the most racist thing I've ever seen on GDC.

Z J
BOBD is arguably their 2nd or third most popular song ever so I don't see them removing it. I wouldn't have a problem with BOBD and 21 Guns on the same set list but if they both are acoustic then they probably shouldn't be. BOBD is definitely a song that will end up on GD's legend. Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday, Good Riddance, BOBD, and maybe Basket Case or When I Come Around are songs that will and should define GD. When they are inducted in to the Hall these are the songs that they will be known for and these are the songs that will have lasting impact. DookieLukie
21 Guns is phenomenal live. I really don't like the studio version, but the 880 Studio Session version is a huge improvement. Here if you haven't heard it: Also, I'm definitely desensitized to how good BOBD is due to years of overplaying it, but I listened to AI in full yesterday and BOBD sounded great again in the context of the whole album.

Spike
is it... In terms of structure, feel, tempo and that drum fill at the start of the second verse, yes Obviously not otherwise.

They're similar but I think BOBD is just the better song, and I really like the crowd singing a verse. And watching Jason's hands play the end bit is awesome. And waiting for Billie to sing the last "only thing that's beating" going lower and exchanging an amused glance with my sister over it is the best

captain peroxide
BOBD has just been a staple of their setlist for so long that I feel like everyone's desensitized to it. Now, if we're gonna talk songs that should be setlist staples...
Z J
MAYBE Basket Case and When I Come Around? Those would be huge staples! When I said maybe I meant either or I didn't really mean to imply that they're not important to GD's legacy. But the songs that get remembered are usually going to be the ballads that's just how it is. If you're going to make a list of "best rock songs of all time"…then songs like JOS and Good Riddance are gonna be your best bets from GD, in my opinion. Those songs will stand the test of time better than Basket Case or WICA
Hermione
What? When he sings the last chorus of BOBD he always sings the end of the word "beating" lower than on the album, like he takes the note lower. I think he's done it every time they've ever played the song live, he must wish he'd sung it that way on the album. My sister and I find this funny so when we attend Green Day shows we feel the need to look at each other in the crowd and laugh when he does it. This is a major reason as to why I'd rather they played BOBD than 21 Guns.
Spike
It's especially good given that it's at the point where Jason looks like he's whacking off his guitar. It's like Redundant all over again.

Hermione
I don't hear it lol. Listen to the word "beating" in the last chorus on the CD and then on a live recording. In the live recording he puts in an extra syllable and sings the end of the word lower, ie on the CD it's "bea-ting" and live it's "be-ea-ting". It's totally different

Backyard Skulls
Just hearing it now, I thought it was just the cymbals it's from about 0.48 onwards, mostly when the full band comes in. Lazy bones is probably one of my favourite songs from the trilogy. It would be amazing acoustic, just with Billie singing but I doubt it'd happen
