The Disappearing Boy Posted June 18, 2014 Share Posted June 18, 2014 I'm not sure I can live in a world where a top 5 of Fell For You, Stay The Night, Nuclear Family, Kill The DJ and Rusty James in that order isn't universally accepted. I think I'd probably go along with that top 5. I like Let Yourself Go, but it's probably not top 5. I'd have a different order, though. Stay the Night, Kill the DJ, Nuclear Family, Rusty James and Fell for You. And Fell For You is musically dull andl lyrically horrible You're a harsh man. Granted the chorus of Kill The DJ is unimaginative but the verses are serious next-level stuff. Coming after Carpe Diem and Let Yourself Go in the running order probably makes it seem even better, but it's still amazing. I've said it before, but I really see it as their David Bowie moment, which can only be a good thing. Rusty James took forever to grow on me, and I can see why it can be considered unmemorable but I still love it. Stay The Night is pure genius though, and the live version from Reading 2012 is the second best thing in the history of Green Day, behind Basket Case at Reading 2005. The only thing I don't like about Fell For You is the bendy riff, but it's still far better than some of the stuff on the Trilogy overall. The Demolicious version is clearly better because that snare sound is orgasmic. I think I'd probably go along with that top 5. I like Let Yourself Go, but it's probably not top 5. Are you saying if you really love a song but it's on an album full of filler it makes the song less good? The lyrics in the verses. Obviously the chorus lets it down massively, but the verse lyrics just seem very Bowie-like, and I find it very easy to imagine him singing them. I'm aware it sounds like a bullshit theory, in fairness. I guess I have to concede that some people think it's great, then. I just genuinely don't understand why. Why *do* you like it so much? I know the chord progression is unoriginal, but I love it. The overall feel, the lyrics, the backing vocals in the chorus and just everything about the bridge are epic. I love pop songs with simple love lyrics, but I can't see why Stay the Night is so special in that category. It is good but nothing spectacular.
