Spike
that was the thing!!... if there had been some better guitars on Triology,... We would have never got DEMOLICIOUS!!.. We wouldn't have needed it either.
Akshat Jain
People did take it the wrong way, since Green Day never said they were going back to their roots. When they were in the early stages of making the albums they said that they were at the stage of being "back to the roots" of making an album, purely just talking about how far along they were and not commenting on what it'd sound like at all, then a crappy article reported that they'd said the new album would be back to their roots and like Dookie and others ran with it, and then people expected an album like Dookie. The whole thing was a fabrication. by going back to roots they meant that they were in studios... making songs together, by having band practices, making demos, they never meant, that the'll be sounding like Dookie again!! We wouldn't have needed it either. Remember --- Second Day is always better than the first!!

Spike
I thought they only did it so they had something to release for record day though. This is true, but it says something when the demos are miles better than the finished versions purely because of the delivery.
Akshat Jain
I thought they only did it so they had something to release for record day though. They wanted to show the Haters, to shut their Mouth... Green Day will be back... somewhere in september though... they might have some plans for AI as well!!

Yep I hope they noted this. & you know I like trilogy but like it less because of demolicious.

Anaïs.
Yeah, and it was absolutely badass. I actually prefer the studio version. Dose slides tho.
captain peroxide
Yeah, I don't think Green Day shows off. Except for Tré, who's got some pretty insane stuff. Billie, Mike and Jason are all much better at their instruments than they usually let on, and I'd like to see them let that out a bit more.
spark in the night
Honestly, I've lost interest in what Green Day is (and is not) doing at the moment. It's like everyone has gone their separate ways. And this weird music/movie stuff Billie is doing - I'm just not into it. He's also turning into a weird middle-aged high school hobo sasquatch and I'm like wtf are you doing I'm happy that Mike and Britt instagram often, makes me feel connected a little bit. It's like shit, everyone's old and not being a band anymore. What do we do- wait every 3 years for a new tour? I listened to Insomniac a while back and it nearly brought me to tears. I MISS THIS SHIT The Green Day world is stagnant and it makes me bored and sad

spark in the night
Yeah I definitely understand, I didn't mean to sound like that. The Trilogy was such a mess it just feels like nothing substantial has really happened since 21CB. But I understand the circumstances.

I MISS THIS SHIT The Green Day world is stagnant and it makes me bored and sad I see what you mean and kind of feel the same. I got into them with American Idiot and obviously they were at the height of their powers, and seeing them on the Breakdown tour couldn't have been more perfect. It's totally understandable that things have gone the way they have, because they're getting older, that level of activity can't go on forever, they want to experiment with other things and obviously Mike's kind of preoccupied now, but it's still kind of sad and not the best time to be a fan. I don't think they're over by a long shot though, it's just a rough patch.

I MISS THIS SHIT The Green Day world is stagnant and it makes me bored and sad I went through a period like this from about mid 2010 to early 2012. I picked up the interest again when the Trilogy was announced and was really quite excited when it was released. So you can imagine my disappointment when I heard it

I don't think they're over by a long shot though, it's just a rough patch. it kinda seems like the band is dying and their new music sounds sort of rushed I still love them and all their songs it just seems as if they just don't have the same ambition and motivation for making music that they did when they were first starting out now I think they're more worried about pleasing fans and Green Day's never been about that. That hurt me to say more than anything, I really hope I'm wrong about that :'(

They were totally inspired and motivated while making the albums, you can see on there that they loved it. I think if they were about pleasing fans they would've just rehashed one of their more successful albums instead of making three different sounding albums with a retro rock and roll feel to them and doing something totally new and daunting by playing them to the public for the first time at secret little shows. They were more spontaneous for sure but that's not the same as rushed, I think they had a great time making them and liked the result so they put them out, simple as that. I don't think there's anything to worry about, a bit of a setback with Billie going into rehab and the albums not doing so well but pretty sure they're still as motivated as ever, you can look at the fabulous live shows they've played since then to see that!

Exactly. I think sometimes people get mixed up between their personal opinions of the Trilogy and how Green Day are doing as a band. Not liking it is no indication of them wanting to stop whatsoever. One thing I've always loved about the Trilogy is knowing how much the band enjoyed it and, whether it's good or not, how much work they put into it when they could have just sat back and released something half-arsed, like many other bands at a similar stage of their career. TommyGun
i totally understand your point, it's really not exciting to be a fan right now but i think we are just going through that period between the records, as far as i know the span after AI and 21stCB was quite long and why should green day be dying just because we haven't heard anything special in about one year
