Some good songs, some bad songs, but overall meh. Yeah, it would have been awesome, but they probably saw it as too over the top and kind of ridiculous. Restraint is an underrated skill in songwriting. People were silly for expecting Dookie again, the band were nearly 20 years older and to do that would have just been ridiculous. Either way in my opinion the Trilogy for me at least is sort of an alluding breath of fresh air from the band after the whole concept album stuff. When they were in the early stages of making the albums they said that they were at the stage of being "back to the roots" of making an album, purely just talking about how far along they were and not commenting on what it'd sound like at all, then a crappy article reported that they'd said the new album would be back to their roots and like Dookie and others ran with it, and then people expected an album like Dookie.
