UNICORN VOMIT Posted June 2, 2014 Share Posted June 2, 2014 On a vaguely related note, since Kay touched on it briefly, the way Billie writes about women is one of the things that made Green Day stand out in a big way. Part of the reason I abhor Dos so much is because it's such a massive departure from that empowering message that is Green Day's trademark, and instead we just get shit like Makeout Party and Fuck Time. People can argue that they're fun songs, and that's fine, but they're not what Green Day is about, and are completely at odds with their back catalogue that includes songs like She, Maria, 80, and so many others. Granted that is true but that is the whole meaning of dos - fucking up the life that is important to you. Clockwise Posted June 2, 2014 Share Posted June 2, 2014 I'm not, though. Even without that angle, a lot of the songs just don't do it for me at all. That might be a personal preference thing, but they just come off as either too bland, or too ham-handed. I like the way Billie writes about women but LotAG is like that style taken to an almost comical extreme, for me. Just a reminder to everyone that this always what it is! Just personal preference/opinion. Boring, pointless way to open an album. The whole concept album that tells a story thing. It's like they're trying to tell a story but lost interest halfway through. Song of the Century was a great opening. Lullaby-like, and a great pre-cursor for the epic 21CB. 21CB (album) does have a handful of low-quality songs, but I'd argue the highs outweigh it. American Eulogy, Before the Lobotomy, Static Age, Viva La gloria!, East Jesus Nowhere, 21CB, Little Girl, Peacemaker, and Last Night on Earth are all wonderful. 21 Guns live is absolutely stellar. Their best vocal album by far and lyrically they hit on a lot of great stuff. The album ranges from my third favorite to 6th depending on mood but it was definitely a great way to advance themselves from AI. They incorporated piano, more balladry, more styles (Peacemaker/Little Girl), more vocal attention, and did it all while maintaining some great harmonies and melodies that they are known for. Something about the lyrics is just really awkward to me. Like the song tries to hard to be about some mystery cool girl.Horseshoes and Handgrenades. Boring as fuck, nothing interesting happening musically or lyrically.See the Light. Repetitive, boring, and a really lackluster way to end an album. Honorable mention: 21 Guns. It's pretty, sure, but it's pandering so hard to the radio-friendly ballad market.i agree with you that i don't particularly enjoy most of these songs, but i don't think christian's inferno sounds like the network at all.
