Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

They do need to change their setlist dramatically though. The 99 revs tour was way too similar to the 21CB tour setlist.

Huh? Apart from the fact they only kept one Breakdown song in there and kept playing Dookie in full?

Brain Stew is boring as fuck as well, I remember posting that as my very first unpopular opinion back in the old thread :P

WICA is just lacking in emotion and the chorus is boring and just everything about it is annoying.

Nah.

Nah lol

Yeah but then the 21CB tour setlist was similar to the AI tour setlist. And the AI tour setlist was similar to the Pop Disaster setlist. And so on and so on as you go back. They've never really been ones to change their setlist that dramatically (aside from maybe with adding lots of AI songs on that tour, but even then they've kept them consistently since then), they've always generally been a band who prefer to keep playing the classics and the same songs from a given album and not add too many new songs, and to change their setlist gradually over the years rather than starting totally from scratch with each new tour.

I dont think Wake me up fits either then following that logic, probably the song that sounds nothing like the rest I still dont know hoy the lyrics relate to the rest of the story. I mean cmon Shes a rebel makes a great transition song from novacaine, also it has great lyrics and a upbeat sound that makes sense regarding the story that theyre trying to tell.

Its a good point you made here. I don't really mean She's A Rebel doesn't fit the theme of the album, because it is part of the story. What i mean is, if you compare the lyrics of the other songs to the lyrics of She's A Rebel -even though i actually love the song-, the song isn't epic at all compared to Jesus of Suburbia or Homecoming or any of the other songs. The other songs are very deep, and the lyrics are incredible! In She's A Rebel, the lyrics "she's a rebel" go through the whole song, they keep repeating it, and in my opinion She's A Rebel is sort of very or too shallow compared to all the other songs in the album. And Wake Me Up doesn't fit the theme, you're right about that, but it fits the epicness of the album as a whole. The lyrics are moving, like most of the other songs, and it sort of fits the emotional ups and downs -for lack of a better word- throughout the album. The album has some songs that make you angry and rebellious, some songs that get you down in the gutter, some songs that make you feel confused, and it all adds up to the whole theme, if you get my point.

I don't know if that made sense so good luck with figuring it out.:P

AMEN. AMEN. AMEN.

They should have featured Kesha in Nightlife instead of Lady Cobra. But I'm biased because I really love Kesha. It would have given more exposure to the trilogy!

I can't imagine Green Day working with her. I don't have anything against her really, but clearly the guys don't approve anything that has to do with modern day "artists" or "musicians" who don't even do their music for the sake of loving what they do. I think that is why they chose Lady Cobra, cause she's not famous really, you can call her underrated for people in her genre. And to be honest, as much as i just hate rap, i think she actually makes her music because she loves what she's doing and she has a passion in making music, not just for the money. If it was for the money she'd be on MTV stripping down right now, but she's not. I don't mean anything, i have nothing against Kesha and i respect the fact that you love her :)

Yeah I get what you mean, but I think Kesha is one of the mainstream artists that actually is passionate about music. She's been writing songs since she was a teenager, writes all her own songs and has written for other artists too. Plus the guys can't be THAT against modern popular artists since Billie Joe chose to be on Christina Agulera's team on The Voice. :D

An artist can be passionate about making music and also "strip down". For example...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTSkA45YZmA

:D

And they can also want to be successful and make money for what they do. Lady Cobra isn't really a rap artist (she raps but she's in a punk/rock/lots of random genres band) so she's not the best example, but there are lots of rap artists and pop artisys (as well as artists from any genre) both underground and mainstream who are passionate about what they do and aren't only in it for the money. I think Green Day are pretty open minded about working with different people these days, dunno if Kesha would be a particularly likely collaboration but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them working with a really mainstream artist like that.

Woah really? I never knew that about her! I actually really love it when i hear that some mainstream artists write their own songs and compose them, even if i don't necessarily like their music or the genre in whole, it makes me happy. XD

And you're right about that point as well, they're not too much against modern artists but well i sort of see where their coming from cause mostly everyone and everything nowadays is pure shit that makes no sense, and if it does, its about sex. Everyone and everything on tv and in the music industry sort of glorify and commercialize sex.

I retract my earlier statement, I had my facts distorted. Remembering back to the show I was at they surprised me by playing "Chump" and "Let Yourself Go" which, as far as I could tell, hadn't been played before that show. Then as Tom mentioned they did play Dookie in its entirety a couple of times. What I should have said was that they need to stop playing know your enemy second in the set, because I'd like to hear something fresh there. Sorry about my idiocy :/

What?! How would you change it then? I can't see a major fault with it maybe a few songs exchanged but you still have to have the main body of songs. BOBD, Basket case/she, King for a day, AI, JOS

Ignore that, I was remembering wrong. I would prefer it if they stopped playing Know Your Enemy and played something else.

Huh? Apart from the fact they only kept one Breakdown song in there and kept playing Dookie in full?

Forget I said that, I was remembering the tour wrong. I'll just go and stew in my idiocy :/

hahahahah it made sense, yep I see your point, Shes a rebel as an individual song is probably the simplest of them all

I've never gotten all of Dookie :(

That's a shame, everyone should have all of Dookie at least once. Which is probably an unpopular opinion in itself.

I want all of Insomniac but Billie doesn't even know the words to some of them.

I'm not sure anyone has ever known any of the words to some of them, so it wouldn't really matter.

I'm pretty sure Brain Stew is the only one he still remembers; they haven't done Jaded for a while, and considering he was forgetting the lyrics to Viva la Gloria as soon as 2009 I think it's safe to say he's probably forgotten Jaded. :P

He managed to just about get by with Geek Stink Breath on 2010 though. He might have fun with Babs Uvula Who, though.

brain stew is awesome and the static age sucks

I completely support you in your unpopular opinion. I can't stand this fucking song.

The melody is so empty, the lyrics, excuse me but.. ''And ste-re-o in the sta-a-tic aaaaage'' is just cringeworthy.

Also Brain Stew isn't my fav but it's an ok song for me.
