UNICORN VOMIT
Wow. I think I need to sit down. Hitchin' A Ride, seriously? I do really like it as a song but I only listen to live versions these days, the overcompression in the choruses is really grating to me. Hitchin A Ride was my favourite from the soundwave setlist. I never understand any of your technical stuff - I just like what I hear
Spike
It has my favorite Tre drum moment of all time. The booming thud of the drums after each verse is pure sex to me; it's the Green Day equivalent of dropping the bass. And when the solo comes in after the string interlude—God, rocket fueled. The compression really doesn't bother me in that particular song; as I've said before, Nimrod is probably my favorite of theirs production-wise. Oh yeah, I agree with those points. It's a fantastic song and the drum production is amazing. It's the guitars in the offending section that bother me. I have got the vinyl rip as a FLAC file though, and it goes some way to improving it. Sometimes I think my degree ultimately ruined my ability to enjoy of a lot of music... Backyard Skulls
I remember freaking out in my music listening exam when they used tre's drum fill from Jesus of suburbia from biab in a question I'm not a drummer but there's some of tre's fills I love like in burnout, chump and even though it's really simple - we are the waiting. Dat bass drum I do think he uses the cymbals too much sometimes though??
Pat1308
I think the first half of Chump could have been my favorite song off of Dookie. The melody and the runs are perfect. Lyrics are solid as well. But the long instrumental, while not bad, doesn't do much for me. I almost always skip it after the singing is over.On the contrary, I think that instrumental and its overall breaking down/chaotic feel is what makes Chump special. I did notice that they never play it quite the same as the album version in shows though. (It's faster though, so that isn't a minus point.) P.S. Wait, who the hell's Cocaine?

Dat bass drum I do think he uses the cymbals too much sometimes though?? Are We The Waiting is one of his best performances, along with Give Me Novacaine. Very underrated. He's fully aware of the cymbal issue, it seems. He learnt to play without cymbals, so then when he got them he used them as much as possible whether it was suitable or not. Which flies in the face of his "play the instrument, not the song" mantra, but there we go. I think the first half of Chump could have been my favorite song off of Dookie. The melody and the runs are perfect. Lyrics are solid as well. But the long instrumental, while not bad, doesn't do much for me. I almost always skip it after the singing is over. Has any Green Day song ever had a fade out? Maybe you should edit it in Audacity or something to fade out at the start of the bass solo
